Casting 9 mill bullet for Glock 19-17

Hello all, looking to start casting for my Glock 19/17 to cut cost for shooting. I have stock barrels and also a S3f barrel. Have some lead and a pot, looking for suggestions on a mold for casting. Have been reloading for a long time mainly plated and some cast. I use mainly win231/hp38 powder. Not looking for a super fast round but a consistent round for training purposes. Lots of threads out there on this already, but a couple easy choices are Lee's 95-RF and 120-TC bullets. Both of these shoot really well in my Glocks. You'll want the 6 cavity version 'cause you'll go through a lot of them! :)

I load that 95-RF bullet to ~1050-1100 fps with Clays or American Select for a real mild target load; it's very accurate.

Will have to get one. So to start another question. I bought some lead bullets 125 grain rn 356. For my Glock 19 I plan on loading them with hp38. And shootings them in an aftermarket barrel to get an idea how my gun shoots lead. Any tips to avoid leading?

one thing that can give you problems is the 356 size. My first try would be at 357 or 358. Use the biggest that your gun will function a 100 percent with. Ive got 7 9mm guns right now and none of them do there best with 356 bullets and nothing will cause leading faster then a undersized bullet.

As was mentioned already there are TONS of info on exactly what you are asking. It's be much faster for you to do a couple searches. You'll find everything you're looking for. Bullets, barrels, lube, fit, loads. It's all, already here. I know because I cast and reload for my Glock 19 and found plenty of info on 9mm cast boolits and shooting cast in Glocks. I have no lead or accuracy issues using 45/45/10 for lube and .356 for size in KKM barrel. I use Silhouette and BE-86. So, do the searches and work up with your powder and your barrel. You will find success if that's your concern. Cast and the Glock 19 with an aftermarket barrel like the KKM goes together very well.

I could say don't shoot lead thru a stock Glock barrel. Having said that I will also say there are a number of us out there that do shoot lead thru the stock Glock barrel and its a matter of proper fit like Lloyd said in his post.

I shoot 120 gr to 147 gr Hi-Tek coated cast bullets out of factory Glock and Walther barrels with out any problems, I stay close to 6-2-92 alloy for the 9 mm's.

As all ready posted, bore fit is the most important part, I size to .3575" and make sure your dies are not swagging down your bullets.

Its all fit. Anything from brinell of 5-13 works fine. I would caution people on going too hard from what I have personally seen with respect to Glocks.

I have problems with the Lee 120 tc seating crooked using Dillon dies. I'm hoping switching to the Lee 125 rf will cure that, either that or I need to get a different seating die or make a custom seating stem that matches the profile of the Lee 120 tc.

I've shot cast out of my Glock barrel, I powder coat and scrub the barrel after each range session. Understand the potential risks of cast in Glock barrels and mitigate the risk as you see fit.

Any tips to avoid leading?
Pull some bullets from your loaded rounds and measure the base. 9mm cases are notorious for case swaging the bullet too small. Esp out of a stock glock barrel, this will cause major problem, because the bullet won't bump back up in a stock Glock barrel. 358 offer no advantage over 356 in my 9mm Glocks, as long as the case is sized and expanded to accept bullet without damage.

What brand and type of press are you loading on? Custom expander/powder thru funnel is needed in some cases to open the brass enough not to squeeze your perfectly sized boolit

I use a Lyman #402 seat stem and die in my Dillon 650 for the Lee 120 TC w/lube grooves. Works great, is my most used 9mm bullet (1000's) and 231 works fine. 4.3 gr gives me 1150 fps from 5" barrel so you want to start lower, say 3.9 gr, and you should be good if it functions 100%, or work up to the level it works 100%. I use either 356 or 357 size in my XDM.

I use the Lee 120 TC 6 cavity mold. Sized to .357 powder coated. Cases are expanded with a NOE .356 plug and loaded with HP38 4.5 grains. Glock 17 and 43.

i am getting ready to do this with a miha 359-125hp acww i was going to size at .358 with TAC and use a .359 expander from NOE
in my 17 is that a good start? looking at 1050 to 1150 to start with

LEE 125 gr. RF. A 38 special and .357 boolit. All but one of my 9mm molds drop too small and I get patterning. I need .357 and .358 works better.

Dillon does not have a TC seat plug. I made mine with JB weld in the seat die for my 136grn Lyman TC 4 banger. I size to .358 and shoot out of the Glock's we have [17,26] no problem. I use Bens Red and then BLL no leading at all

use a .359 expander from NOE
they don't make one. if you're talking about the 355 expander with a 359 flare, good luck with that and your 358 bullets. That won't even get your bullets started without shaving.

The biggest sizer they make for this caliber is 356/360. This will just barely be big enough to get 358 bullets started. You really want a slightly larger expander, even, for 358 bullets in 9mm cases, but no one makes em like that.

I use the lee 3 die set for my 9mm. My cast are sized to .358 after pc from a .358 150gr lee mold. you need to get everything adjusted right with your powder through flaring die but when you get it its good. No shaving and no extra expander die or fcd. You do have to check your finished rounds in a chamber gauge to make sure you didn't get a bulge in the case from a crooked boolit.
