Almost asked this in the swaging section, but can anyone help identify this? Guy at work bought a bunch of pulled 38 cal bullets from American reloading and he found a handful of these in the pile. The closest thing I can find is an old round geco used to make in the 80's, but that was fmj from what I can tell and the current lead spire points. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've never seen one in person but believe I've read about those. It was a penetrator round for highway patrol or some such for the .38 Spl or .38/44 load. The base still obturates to fit all revolvers and the nose won't deform.

I believe Piedmont has it right. The round was illustrated in the old ammunition catalogs. It was supposed to go through car doors and windshields and hit the fleeing felons.

I believe Piedmont has hit it on the nose. Back in the 1950s-60s, Remington's 'Highway Master' metal-penetrating rounds - offered in .38 Spl, .357 Mag, and .45 ACP - had that nose profile. Both Peters and Winchester offered similar ammo. When I was 12-13, our next door neighbor was a motorcycle cop and I recall seeing them in the bullet loops of his gunbelt.

Yep we were issued 6 of those in the early 70's for our duty belts to be used for stopping cars???

I have half of a die set to make those In 30 cal..
it's a half jacket flipped over then swaged into shape, then a cannelure is rolled into place for the lube groove.

Very cool, thanks guys! It was just one of the more odd bullets I've seen.
