I apologize if this supposed to be in vendor forum. I tried to post there but that forum doesn’t want to open on my phone/Tapatalk.

Anyway I am looking for a source for a 190gr gas checked HP as used by Buffalo Bore and Underwood in their 44 Special loads.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

TIA

Sorry. Looking for cast bullets not a mold.

Not sure why you want a gas check boolit. Not needed in the 44 spl.
Here are some 200gr plain base HP boolits.

Curious about trying to duplicate the Underwood and Buffalo stuff. Or close to it anyway.

My favorite commercial caster is Montana Bullet Works:

https://www.montanabulletworks.com/

They go as light as 210 grains w/gas check, 200 grains w/o.

Good folks to deal with.

Take care, Tom

I found a fellow named Bill Benny out in PA. He makes a number of .430 bullets including a 215gr GCHP. I have 100 on order. Thanks.

You might consider casting your own.Lyman and h&g both made excellent 190gr/200gr gc'd hp's.
Lyman made a hp version of the 429215 gc swc.
H&G made a hp version of the #142 gc swc.

Both bullets look like the tompson 358156 bullet but with only 1 crimp groove but they still have the 2 grease grooves and a gc shank.

I prefer the H&G #142 mold over the lyman. The lyman's tend to cast smaller diameter bullets. And seeing how you are going to want a soft bullet you will not be able to get any increase in diameter using a harder alloy.

My H&G #142 mold casts a .431" bullet using soft alloy (8bhn) and the hp bullet weighs 200gr after being lubed and a gc installed.

If you order bullets you might want to see if you can buy .431"/.432" bullets. If not perhaps a mold is in your future.

What a h&g hp mold looks like. Most people see the steal hp pin and think it is a aftermarket/home made pin. They tend to not buy the h&g molds, they think the pin should look more like the common wooden handled lyman mold pins. Which is a good thing for mold buyers. I bought this one decades ago dirt cheap because someone "lost" the factory hp pin.

Good luck

Rim Rock has 185 gr 44 cal SWCHP bullets that they claim Buffalo Bore uses.

I saw those. But they don't appear to be gas checked. Maybe I'll give them a phonecall and see what I can find.

Bought 500 of the Rimrock LHP bullets. The box says 185gr and 10 weighed at random weigh between 186-191 grains. These same 10 measure right on .430. They look nice with full grease grooves, etc and I don't see any dwarfs or impartial pours just from rooting around in the box.

I'll load a few up ASAP and see how they shoot.

Contact this guy. I understand he casts and sells some custom bullets not shown on his website. He's slow if he doesn't have them on hand but reliable and prices are good. Do mention you want them hard cast, sized and lubed if you intend to duplicate Buffalo Bore.

EDIT: I used these from Matt for my Charter Arms Bulldog car gun until I located my own mold. A bit heavier than what you want but great for self defense.
