Hi Guys,

I was offered last night few hundreds of what looks to be brand new 50cal. projectile that are CNC from brass, I didn't see this before and wonder if I should get them and also who like to shoot them and why? (general education)

Projectiles are 48.5grams which convert to 748-750 grains.
I also received last night about 140 projectiles of 50cal tracers (800 grains) that looks like pulls from demil, can they still be used? they look in good shapes.

Thank you
Ori

Actually, both projectiles look good. I'd have no problem shooting either the solids or the tracers. What is the OD of the lathe turned bullets? I'd probably clean the tracers and size them in a .5095 sizer or a .510 sizer first though.

If they were offered and you need to do something with them, my offer stands. Lol.

I can't see any pull marks on the tracer. You may not even need to size them.

Lol, they worth that much :)

The guy who bring them expect to be paid I just wasn't sure how much to give him if any.
Ill give him something and forward them to the forum for a good price too.
I found later today that these turned brass projectile are 1.5-2.00/pc when you buy them form the shop.

Regarding the pulled ones, I dont see any pull marks of any sort only reason i thought they are pull is the black lines that look like some kind of seal maybe.
There are absolutely no pull sign machine signs or any of that sorts, they look good to my untrained eye.

Solid brass is
OL 2.356
Dia 0.5075

Tracers OL 2.696
Dia 0.5085

Just yanking your chain. I would expect the lathe turned bullets would be at least that. As far as the tracers, I think about 50-60 cents is the going price.

If you get the tracers and decide to sell them, I would buy them. I'm sure we could work out a mutually agreeable price.

As far as who would shoot the other lathe turned, the long range 50 bmg crowd sometimes uses lathe turned bullets for extreme long range accuracy.

Keep me in mind on the tracers.

I got the tracers already,
There are about 130-140 of them.
It came with many Sierra bullets of 308/ 180gr HPBT (2220C) 500pc and 210gr HPBT(9240)500pc
Also about 500 sierra 6mm-243 (1537C) 500pc
1100pc CCI BR-2 primers and about 50pc CCI#35 (50 cal)
A bunch of white flannel wads for shotgun too.

Im waiting on the guy to come back with the turned brass ones.

Those yellow over red projectiles are NOT from .50 BMG ammo, the are from the .50 BAT, battalion anti-tank. They are spotting rounds for a semi-auto .50 BAT mounted on the side of a group of 3 106 mm recoilless rifles. They were used on the ONTOS anti-tank weapon. There is a primer in the nose and a spotting charge below that. Not exactly explosive but you don't one to go off in your hand! These also do have a tracer element as well

interesting...I can see the tip of the nose is kinda flat with a little pin in the center
I hope it can be used, 50 cal explosive tracer round must be fun.

The 50 bmg crowd usually refer to these as spotter/tracer. They shoot fine in a 50 rifle
When they impact a solid object like tank or conex box they emit a blue smoke cloud.
To my memory trace is approx 300 to about 700 yds.
Needs a hot powder (5010 iirc) to ignite trace

Damn.. I wish i had a 50 Rifle to try.
Im sure that would be fun to shoot, Especially that we got some termite to go with it LOL.

Like my partner said now that we have the projectiles, brass and primers we are only missing the powder and $6k for a barret :)

Turned brass projectiles, that are just shooting grade are about a buck apiece IIRC. I have some of the ones you show in your pic. I usually put a thin coat of thinned lee lube on the brass projectiles.
As said earlier, the other bullets are usually known as spotter/tracer

Thanks rockrat for clarification on the shooter grade turned bullets. I was only familiar with some bullets a friend has for 338 and 375 caliber that aren't cheap. Lol

IMHO,The info on the Spotter tracers above is correct.

One caution I have always heeded when Loading the Spotter-Tracer projectile is to keep powder charge down to well below starting/normal 50BMG loads. I use surplus 5010 with them and max charge of 170 gr of my surplus 5010 with spotter tracer projectiles. They are fun!

Ken

PS: I to agree, the brass look like the quality, Lehigh bullets.
