DON'T SHOOT! I WAS ONLY KIDDIN'!!!
I appreciate your wife and your efforts to bring this off. I only wish I had more disposable income at the time and could have doubled up (or more).

I missed out on this buy any chance of another in the not so distant future?

If the health holds out, we might do it again. Tommy is going to help with setting up an all night computer that can be logged into for orders, and for Larry to constantly monitor. ... felix

Felix, I'm assuming that you are not through shipping? I have not seen my name. I'm not hurrying you, just need to know when to look for a package so the PO won't bounce if back.

Emmett, your order was shipped on 4/28. Anybody else missing theirs? ... felix

Like swampmaster I missed the boat also. Post loud and clear on the next gas check buy. You guys have taught me more in this last year of snooping than my last 30 of hit and miss casting. Back in the 70's started the paper patch 30 cal. route and just stuck with it till now. PB pistol and paper patch rifle was all I ever messed with. Kept it simple with the lee sizers and stuff.

Nothing to worry yet and I'm not short on checks here; thanks to my friends in the US. It will take 1..2 months and sometimes it takes more time than is advertised, but I haven't lost anything yet. Thanks to Felix and all others involved; not very easy task I'm sure. Me too have a new shopping list waiting for the next round :drinks: .

For the next time, we might have a minimum dollar value just to keep folks from "testing the waters". The shear number of orders is more of a hassle than the large orders, at least head wise. Physically, the large orders are more work, but also more fun because of the challenge in getting them shipped in the minimum amount of packaging material. ... felix

How much do you "think" the price will increase with the same volume order ?

I'll be intrested in the next check buy also. I do agree that prices will go up drasticly unless the metal market tanks before then.

Felix, do the next group buy in 30 caliber only and with a 5k minimum. Might even do multiples of 5k only, i.e., 10k, 15k, etc., etc. Be easier to keep up with the orders that way.

Sounds like a plan, Junior. Others have mentioned likewise. ... felix

I just opened a new box of Hornady 30 caliber gas checks and weighed them on a precision scale. 1,000 = 4455.2 grs.

Junior, please do the same with the Gator's. ... felix

It would be just a whale of a lot easier to use a cup of a certain size and knife edge the cup and then dump the contents into a bag. One cup would be "light" and the next cup would be "heavy" on average. So, if a minimum would be two cups per order increment, the measure of checks expected would come out within reason. So, we might have to say a certain number of cups per order would be a good method. Just a way to cut time down dramatically. I really don't think any of us care that we have 1000 checks in that bag. We are after quality (uniformity) and physical cost most primarily.
I designed the computer hardware (board and components) and software, and wrote the software code, for the likes of Frito-Lay (as a consultant to them via Micracle-Packaging Corp). The law at that time stated that a "case" or product must meet weight as a minimum, but the bags inside can be all over the map in terms of weight, volume). Based on that, the bags of stuff on the store shelves must be investigated by the consummer. So, compare bags before buying one.
Now, if you are buying 5 bags, who would care. Close enough is good enough. Grab the bags and leave so the line at the cash register does not get too long while contemplating what each bag has in it. ... felix

Junior, please do the same with the Gator's. ... felixI'll do it in the morning. But I didn't order any 30 caliber. I'll weigh what I ordered--32, 357, and 44.

Hell im ready for buy #2 no matter how you do it!!!! Should have ordered twice what i did but the funds were a little tight. A man can never have enough primmers surplus powder gaschecks or lead!!!! (thats a hint for some other good group buys pal!!)

I would be good for at least another order of the same size as my last. Probably a lot larger. That ought to make for a really good start.

Gator checks weight:
1,000 @ 323 = 5071.0 grs
2,000 @ 35 = 6847.4 grs (While the bag is marked 2,000, I suspect it contains only 1,000. No, I don't want a refund--I'm happy.)
1,000 @ 430 = 7805.4 grs

Junior, that problem would have been formulated before I got the shippment! Perhaps, the 358 checks are thinner by a considerable margin. Do you have an old Hornady box you can verify volume with? ... felix

Okay fellows...I have some OLD Hornady 35 cal gaschecks. 1000 of them weigh 7340 grains. I miked the center bottom of one and it's .0115
Hope this helps.

Felix,
I guess we both overlooked my error, I meant to say 2000 Hornady older 35 cal gaschecks weigh 7340 grains, which is slightly over a pound. How thick are those gator ones you just found? Can you mike one?
Sorry about amount the error but the weight is correct.

I'm ready for round 2. The Gator Checks I received in the GB are of excellent quality. Next round I will definately order a larger quantity. I only got 10,000 in the first round. Maybe Gator Checks could become a regular item here. Could Felix swing a deal of that nature? Maybe something that didn't need a honcho.

I wonder how many gas checks can be stuffed into one of those USPS flat rate boxes? ;)
felix

3 of those boxes plumb full went to one person. A 800+ dollar order. 60-70 pounds per box? Just a guess. ... felix

One of my flat boxes from felix had 10K (or was it 15K?) .44's in it. Might have been able to get another 5K or so in without too much trouble. That was double boxed which is highly recommended since it is also the box that the PO decided to torture test.

So I know approx cash to keep onhand what was the average price per k or 5k
felix
05-26-2006, 10:57 PM
Assume 15 bucks per K, anyway, for an average of normal checks. The 50 calibers will be much higher, say 30 bucks per K. Just speculation. ... felix

07-05-2006, 01:15 PM
100K checks minimum per order, 5K per caliber minimum? That might be required to get the prices reasonable. If orders are made this way, the next GB will have to start earlier than 6 months in advance of delivery. In Reijo's situation, that would be 9.5 months in advance! ... felix
