lts a used 2-cavity Lyman. .430 dia, l want to try something a hair bigger than the .429 H&G

molds l am currently using.. Also l think the shape will fly a bit better out to those 200m RAMS.

l wont push it too hard tho..Maybe 900 to 950fps.. Getting a bit low on Unique, so l might try

some of the new CFE 10 l got awhile back.. l recently picked up a nice 444 Marlin rifle. l can

only guess how it will shoot in it. Esp w/1 in 38 Micro Groove barrel

Don't see that # very often. I got mine about 25 years ago, new. To the best of my knowledge only one run was made. Mine is labeled as 275 gr. but drops at 290 from old WW and sized and checked. I bought it for use in a Marlin 1894, 44 magnum, it worked pretty well. Sold the gun, still have the mold, drops good bullets.

I have this mold, cast a few hundred boolits, can't remember ever shooting any.
I have the single cavity HP mold and have gotten more use from it, good deer boolit!

You had better slug the bore of the 444. They tend to run "fat". I have a Marlin 1894 in .44 Mag and it has groove diameter of 0.4315" which is pretty typical of Marlins. Maybe not Marlin's fault as the SAAMI spec for rifles is different than for handguns. Not sure why but it is. Most Marlin Rifles in .44 Mag and 444 seem to need fat boolits. I use 0.433"/0.434" in my 1894.

http://www.saami.org/specifications_and_information/publications/download/Z299-4_ANSI-SAAMI_CFR.pdf

Oddly, .44 Mag is listed at groove diameter of 0.431" and 444 at 0.430" for rifle where .44 Mag handgun is listed at 0.429". Why the difference between .44 Mag rifle and 444? and why would they differ from .44 Mag handgun? But so they do.

Fit is king so you will want a boolit sized to a thou or two over groove diameter.

Nothing wrong with the 1:38" microgroove barrels for cast boolits except you are limited in boolit weight. I find 270 gr. as heavy as will stabilized in my 1894 but the 444 should handle heavier boolits because there is higher velocity potential. The 429640 should be fine if it casts large enough. I am using a Mihec 434640 (fat 429640) in my .44 Mag with great results.

I also had a Marlin 1895 in .45-70 many years ago and is shot PB cast boolits just fine through a microgroove barrel using some pretty hot loads.

I know the win. 94's in 44 like the bigger diameter also.
they must have followed the Saami specifications.
I have to make 44 jacketed bullets to 4305 to get mine to shoot well.
I wish I could make them bigger but they work.
