This thread is for pictures taken this year ONLY!!
Post a picture or two of your favorite pictures of your guns this year. Also tell a little about the picture.

My favorite Muledeer hunting picture with my Hot Rod Hawken, actually any picture with my son is a favorite.

My favorite Whitetail picture of my rifle is not me. It is 54bore Lewis. He was pretty excited to shoot my rifle. It was a lot of fun for me to let him shoot it. Good times.

That was good times for sure Ron!! For me, that Ole Hotrod Hawken is the reason i stayed in blackpowder, The results i were getting with stock 54 Cals was less than stellar, A WHOLE LOT LESS and continues on today with stock 54 Cals. It would have been REALLY easy for me to hang it up with Blackpowder! Then i run across a Youtube video of you out in the desert shooting a TC Hawken at 300 Yards with peep sights, i knew i wanted one for sure! (One of my favorite quotes is that of Mr. Townsend Whelen "ONLY ACCURATE RIFLES ARE INTERESTING") Your Ole Hotrod Hawken INTERESTED me!!

I have 3 pictures to put up here, one of my Stainless Hotrod Renegade .50 Cal with a leather Action recoil pad i installed. The other is My little TC Seneca .36 Cal, with new .45 Cal barrel, this little rifle is really fun to shoot!! And last is my TC New Englander, Idahoron drilled and tapped that Tang for me so i could mount a Peep sight on it, which i did. Thanks again Ron!183036183035183034

This is a lousy photo taken with a cheap phone, but it's the context that I like. That's a three point White Tail buck taken late this November on a fine morning. I had passed up shots on two other deer this season, including a nice buck that same morning, because I wasn't comfortable with them. This fella walked up to within sixteen yards of my position in a tree stand, and presented the perfect, textbook broadside shot. That in itself wasn't new to me, but taking a deer with a Walker revolver was.

The Accurate Molds 45-200S bullet propelled by 50 grains of Olde Eynsford 3F from the nine inch barrel put him down quickly, with a busted rib, two busted lungs, a busted heart, and a busted leg on the far side. He never got his feet and was stone dead in less than ten seconds, exactly 16 yards from where he was standing when hit. He yielded over 70 pounds of meat, packaged and in the freezer.

The Walker had been refit such that the wedge taps in tight, forcing the barrel hard against the bottom of the frame. The barrel was then turned, or faced off, at the breach end so as to leave a consistent .003" cylinder gap with a tight wedge, and then it was fit with a Marble Arms fiber optic front sight dovetailed to the barrel, and the rear sight notch filed wider, flat and square. Factory nipples were replaced with Tresos, limiting hammer blow-back with their smaller flash channels. After that were several practice sessions to determine my and the gun's, and the various loads', capabilities at various distances in advance of muzzleloader season. That photo represents the culmination of an all summer project.

Did you have to do any inletting on the stock of the New Englander? No way I would ever buy one of the peep sight that TC makes for these. Way too much $$$$ What model are the sights on it? I have 2 of these guns, I always wanted to put a peep sight on it. Just did not want to cut up the stock to do it.

if the sight contacts the wrist of the stock on a New Englander the problem can be solved by usin' a small spacer under the sight or modifyin' the bottom of the sight base. Ron has a tutorial on here somewhere on how he handles this problem.

tomme boy; I believe that's the Lyman 57 SML tang sight. It's not all that expensive, and it really is a good way to go. The pre-drilled screw holes in the tang on Lyman and some TC rifles are spaced and threaded for that sight. On my Lyman, the sight body barely contacted the stock, but a slight amount of metal removal under the sight took care of that. Shims, as Bubba.50 says, would be another way to solve that minor issue. The aperture rear sight increases both visual acuity and depth of field, so if you have a case of old eyes, it brings the front sight into focus nicely. If your TC isn't pre-drilled for it, it's not all that difficult to drill and tap one hole in the tang (the sight's rear mounting hole uses the rear tang screw, so it should be ready to go).

54Bore; thank you. It could not have gone any better this season (nice day at sunrise, walking distance from home, easy shot, perfect hit, pretty much "dead right there", and easy retrieval of the carcass) except maybe if I'd practiced and experimented a little more I might have been able to get a shot at the nicer buck I saw that same morning. Regardless; I'm satisfied, and the younger buck is almost certainly better eating than any trophy buck. The main thing I wanted was to test the pistol/load/bullet on a full grown White tail, and that turned out positive-- There's more than enough energy (540 average ft. lbs. @ 15'), and trauma on the target, at reasonable pistol distance. Here are the photos of the bullet, which flattened out against the center pivot of the "elbow" joint on the far side leg, retaining virtually all of its weight as it snapped the humerus. The full write-up on the project, complete with grizzly necropsy photos is here;
http://1858remington.com/discuss/index.php?topic=10478.0

As stated elsewhere, the point was to demonstrate to those who've been considering hunting with such a pistol but aren't sure, and to some of the state game departments that are nebulous or negative on the issue, that it's more than viable with the right loads. A lot of people have talked about it, and the numbers say it'd be OK, but there hasn't been much in the way of demonstrative evidence. Here it is.

Once upon a time found a little store in Kansas that had packages of TC peeps on the rack with dust covered price stickers. Found what I needed and was proud of it.

The Renegade I've been toying with lately. The oil finish kit stock is courtesy of bubba.50 and the barrel came from another gentleman here on the forum. It is currently a .54 caliber with a bore dark as a Democrats heart, but I have an appointment with Ed Rayl, after the new year, to get it changed over to .58 caliber. I have a Ohaus 58 caliber 400 grain hollow base mold that needs a companion. Looking forward to future adventures with this smoke pole!

Not as much gun porn as I had expected; so I guess I'll help a little. This is a, well, hybrid of sorts built to my specifications. Rice "B" .50 swamped rb barrel X 38". Lock is a Chambers GA. Been shot a bit but not yet christened.

My favorite; a late Lancaster .45 X 36" X 13/16" with Siler lock. This has been a surefire deer killer for many years and my go-to deer rifle.

My new to me yet to be fired by me TC Renegade in .50 Cal.

Below is an old flintlock my father bought at an auction held in an old barn in Vermont sometime in the early 1950's. I have a vague memory of being there with him. After he retired in the 1980's, he made a stab at restoring it for a wall hangar. You can pull the triggers and the flint will spark, but this gun could Never be shot. It is a wall hangar only. I have no sentimental value to this gun, so will probably sell it one of these days. All I have been able to find out about this gun is that it was made sometime in the 1700's and is French.

Here's my 1860 - 1960 Centennial made in Belgium. Unfired, I just can't justify shooting it when I have several other shooters.183484

Awesome pics! I acquired a Lyman GPR or Trade rifle? which had a corroded 28 inch barrel. It has brass on the furniture, double set trigger, and its a single wedge stock. I bought a new GPR barrel/breech which is 32 inch (1/60T) and was for the double wedge GPR stock. I have modified the barrel wedge to suit the single wedge stock, and have extended the ramrod to suit. I have the Lyman peep sights to fit also, but I'm thinking of shooting it with the notch and blade first to see what the difference at the target will be. Any advice on barrel break in or plain old shooting tips would be greatly appreciated, as I'm pretty new to these fun guns!!
TIA!!!
