An oppurtunity to get one of these has happened. The seller says it is NEW,never used and is supposed to drop a 55 grain fn gc bullet, MY lyman book lists it as a 45 grain fngc. Either way the price SEEMS to be in order, but WHAT am I getting? Looking to use it in the .223 Contender mostly. It even come with a 1000 gas checks!

you will be happy and should have some success with the 225415. You should go to castpics and read beagle's article on loading for the 223, there are three articles. If you don't like it let me know.

They seem to be running the cherry a little deeper these days when they cut that mould. That gives you a little longer gas check shank & a little more weight. Mine is probably about a year old & throws a boolit that is about 54 grains depending on alloy. I've pushed it to 3,000fps with no leading of the bore. Accuracy has been better for me under 2,000fps so far. I'm still working on load development.

Grab it NOW!

Mine's probably 8 or 9 years old and finished bullets are in the 54-55 grain range.

Shoots great above1700 FPS in my TC Hornet carbine, never pushed it much over 1800 because I was in search of a 1250 FPS squirrel load.

A fast powder like Unique in the .223 case should do a good job for you.

Manley, thanks for the info. Are there any faster loads for the .223 /225415 with accuracy in the world? At present I am using the 7tc/u with cast as a replacement for the .223 for ground hogs. The 7's 120+ grain bullet is as fast as those loads for the 225415.

Oh yea. Start with 4831 and 21 grains and come up till you lose accuracy. That point will be where your lube hardness fails. IF you want to go faster, that's what you will have to change.

From what I've read, this is a fantastic little bullet! It is definitely on my list of moulds to get. Seems it was offered by Lyman in both 45 and 55 grains at different times.

There are a couple of posts on here where people have hollow pointed the little buggers with tremendous success. This would be a dandy bullet for groundhogs!

I'm thinking about Teflon taping a few cast from Lino and smearing some LLA over the things before loading them. This SHOULD get me way up in the velocity but accuracy may suffer. At the 2700+ speed, I MAY NOT need the HP! Head shots are full of bone.

You can see the effects of 2200-2800fps on a 13BNH version of that boolit here -

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=27429

They were fully mushroomed at 2200 fps with no HP. They were mashed into a ball at 2800.

HP results here -

Using Lyman MolyLube, I was able to break 3,000fps with no leading.
