Another thread currently running reminded me of this convenience we have available here that is apparently under-used. Go to Homepage; on the left hand side there is a list of possible destinations. One of these is the Frapper Map; if you click on it you will find that it is a world map with the location of some of our members displayed on it. It seems a lot of our members are unaware of this map or just chose not to register on it. For those who do register, they can see how close some of the other members, those who registered, are to them. That information helps in arranging shoots, exchanging supplies and equipment, and social events. Check it out:

I'm not smart enough to make it work. It says move this pin but the pin won't move.

It works for me. Click on "Move this pin." A pop up window should come up so you can type in a new zip code.

I did, but the pin still won't move, even after I typed in my address and zip! I'd really like to see all of us on there.

Top left corner of map, click on "Add yourself"; When box opens up, click on it. It will open again with spaces to type in your screen name, Email address, photo, and greeting. When that is completed, click on the "Add Me" at the bottom of the box. It really does work.

I was able to move mine OK...well, it wasn't much of a move...about four miles (Elizabethtown to Rineyville), but it actually did move on the map.

Nice.
Spent a few minutes finding myself on the map, clicked on the button to insert myself, and the GD map boogered off to somewhere else.
<sigh>
It apparently never occurred to the guys that programmed this thing, that folks might find where they wanted the dot to be, then try to install it.
Bugrit! I'll try again when I am feeling more patient!
:-)
Cheers

Guys, you don't locate or move your point. You simply enter your address and the computer places you properly on the map.
Instructions
1. Go to Castboolits.gunloads.com
2. Click on Homepage
3. On left side under "Menu", click on "Frapper Map".
4. On the top left side of the map there is square labeled "Add Yourself'", click on it.
5. A white box opens up, in the box at the top it says,"Hi, please add yourself."
6. Click on the "Please add yourself."
7. Another white box wherein you can add information. Enter your screen name (this tells the map computer where you are located), email address, a photo or avatar, and a motto or greeting if you wish.
8. Click "Add Me" and the computer will properly locate you on the map.
I'm not going to get into manipulating the map; I can do it but I cannot explain it as well as the simple instruction above on getting entered on it.

Trevi, please read my previous post. The map computer is in communication with the CastBoolit computer and entering your screen name tells the map computer where you live. My guess is the computer programmers didn't figure too many people were smart enough to find their home location on a map. The computer really has little or no intelligence, it only knows or does what someone tells it to do and it is quite literal. I find it useful in dealing with it to think the same way, give it only the information it asks for, where and when it wants it. Don't think, don't anticipate, and don't take shortcuts.

I figure that people who cannot find their own location on a map should stay lost!
I was actually zoomed in on my workplace, when I was trying to place the dot. Figured that since the imagery was coming from Google Earth/ Google Maps database, that the system should work in at least a similar manner.
We get enough people around this planet that take that advice in your last line, and we'll end up having to water them.
Says much about computer programmers, or at least the ones that programmed that particular little bit of script.
Dumb.

Howly Sheepdip Batman! It looks like we have a dot!
Good grief! What a counterintuitive POS THAT was!
It is my fervent prayer, that the guys that programmed that, should have to do all their banking through a similar interface! Once they have all starved to death, we can get on with some proper intuitive interfaces!
We should be so lucky.

It simply does NOT work for me; I tried it again just now, following your instructions and not rushing things, but still, no joy!
When I click "Add Yourself" (your Step 4), it opens a YELLOW box on the map with a tail pointing to Illinois and tells me I'm in Philo, IL, USA - I'm NOT!; I'm near a Philo in CA, ZIP 95466 - and says "move this pin", but the pin won't move. I've fiddled around and eventually gotten the white info box (Step 7) and fed in my data, but clicking "Add Me" doesn't result in any action. Maybe the system doesn't work for my iMac G5 with OSX 10.4 Tiger??? I know I'm computulator-stupid, but if following the directions step-by-step doesn't do it, what will?

It could be just not interfacing your Mac, or it could be broken. I can usually get it to do what I want it to, but it changes the rules on me and I have to do it differently every time. The map could be a victim of the software upgrades we've gone through here, maybe Willy can give you some help on it. Under the map there is the word "Contact"; clicking it brings up the email addresses of Ken and Willy. You might ask them for help.

"...it changes the rules on me." That was especially bad with my old hp PC; it seemed to follow a different path each time for most operations; the Mac is better. I'll just let it lay awhile and try again in a week or so - it's a nice feature, but by no means essential.
Thanks!
