Hi all,
I have been working with the 300 Blackout as have many of you. I have shot the NOE version of the 311299 and the Lee 312-155 in my rifle, an AR platform with 16" barrel. The 311299 shot well but the nose was slightly to large for my barrel and engaged the rifling to heavily to be and would stick the cartridge in the chamber so you could not extract a live round so I gave up on that bullet. The Lee 312-155 works very well for a supersonic load and shoots very accurate out of my 8" twist.

I still wanted a heavy weight bullet and I kept looking at the Lee 309-230 that is supposed to be made for the Blackout. I had read of mixed results using this bullet and I was dubious of the Tumble Lube kind of bullets specially in a rifle thinking that it might lead things up. I finally gave in and bought one.

I had read that the boat tail on this bullet would accept gas checks and started out using them with conventional lube using a .311" sizer (because I don't have a .309" or .310") this worked rather well however because the bullet is smaller than .311" lube would extrude out on the nose of the bullet somewhat. I got tired of wiping off the nose and messing with the gas checks and decided to go ahead and try the Tumble Lubing (45/45/10) without sizing or the gas check. Today I started loading up a small test run starting at 10.2 gr. of Lovex/Shooters World, Blackout powder. This load would not eject the empties so I moved up to 10.7 gr. this load ejected OK but did not hold the bolt open on the last shot.

I moved up to 11.0 gr. and this load made my rifle function the way it should. Best of all my fears of leading my barrel were unfounded and my barrel was clean except for a small amount of unburned powder. I believe this load is somewhere around 1000 fps. or a little more and it appeared to be shooting accurately at 100 yards. Today was so windy and cold I was not able to shoot it on paper but will try the next decent day I get.

The Lee groups great in my 16" blackout with A1680 subsonic and it is certainly is fun to shoot.

Original,
Are you using the the LLA to lube your bullets? I have used LLA on pistol bullets but not on rifle bullets before and I guess I was skeptical on if they would be lubed good enough? When I shot the 309-230's the other day I was impressed, I don't know why I should have been when others have been using LLA for years.

I agree, it's a decent boolit. I tumble lube with 45-45-10, size to .309", another tumble and away we go. I found 12.5 grains of RL 7 functions my carbine.
It will indeed take a gas check, but I have found that to be unnecessary in my case.

My 309-230's come out of the mold at .309" so I don't size just tumble lube and shoot.
