sam arrived at 1030 am. unloaded the truck and got him settled. went hunting about 1230 or so. 10 minutes later sam had a nice big mule deer buck gutted out and in the back of his truck. 158 yard shot. never ever done it so fast before, only about 1/2 mile from the house. he will post the story when he gets back to kentucky, i was so excited when he dropped that buck i started to shake. the body was really big, the rack was the biggest 2x2 ive seen for a 2x2. lot of body fat. now we will go out and see what i can get. saw some nice does but no more bucks. they are out their and we just have to find them. buck was sleeping in some CRP and sam spotted the horns, and when he stood up sam nailed him. what a day, hard to repeat.

saw 30 does today but no bucks. we get a free hunt on a ranch for sat and sun, hope we can get a buck off of it. found about 2500 acres of CRP to day with about a uncountable number of pheasants on it and may just hunt those in a coupe of days. saw a small but nice white tail buck to day taken by some nice hunters from wisconson (sp) you should have seen the canyon they pulled that thing up from. i could not discribe the ruggedness of that canyon. it would have killed most men to do what they did. they really earned that one. tomorrow is another day.

went down to smith lake where muley does are legal and got one 5 minutes after we got their. 100 yard shot, dropped like a rock. all tags filled out and we are done. man what a 3 day hunt we had. these muley does are as big as a lot of white tail bucks you see. we are stiff and sore from trying to remain up right and jerking back and forth in the pickup from the land we have been traveling on. i feel like i just broke a dozen horses. now you have to get sam to tell the whole story. im going to say one thing about sam, when he lines up on a deer its a sure thing at any range.

Folks I can honestly say I have about had too much fun! Roger, his wife and I all filled tags, all long ranges and clean quick kills! I have butchered all 3 deer anhave a lotto take back home to Ky, especially the great memories of time spent afield w great folks. Roger and his family are fine folks! We had country ham, eggs an homemade jam for dinner tonight , and I am fixing deer loin fajitas an red beans and rice tommorow! We are going to try to squeeze in a little pheasant hunting too before I leave. You know you are having a great time hunting when you have blisters on your hands from butchering deer!

it going to be hard to duplicate again. yesterday i took sam up to hot springs s.dak. to see the sights. we come back through the south end of the black hills. they are really pine covered mountains. sam is has the best eyes for spotting game ive ever seen. he saw every elk, deer or other critter we passed. we got to the BLN land out on the prairie and saw some out of state hunters hunting deer on it. we also saw a large herd of antelope. the BLN land is thousands of acres of free land that any one can hunt on for mule deer or antelope in season.it is full of those critters. it was a fun day. pheasants to day on 1500 acres of CRP if the weather permits.

Folks I don't know how we could have had more fun. Whenever Roger or I sat down at night, we would literally pass out from so much running and gunning, and talking guns, tinkering with guns, history etc. I just returned home after a grueling 24 hours of driving in 2 days, over 1500 miles, but I am already missing being there with good friends. I don't try to trophy hunt, takes the fun out of hunting, and don't think we wasted one scrap of meat. I will be busy processing meat all day tomorrow, and packaging it up in the freezer! I wish we would have videoed the hunts, or shots, and let you guys see it as It happened. All the range time, load development paid off, with quick, clean and confident kills! As stated before I am not the biggest inline fan, but the 2 TC Omegas I have are dead nuts accurate killing machines! I have as much faith in them as in any of my centerfire rifles out to 300yds!
