I was in Sandpoint and I decided to pick up some bullets from Buffalo arms. I picked up some .451 550 grain paper patch bullets for my .458 renegade. I also picked up some 400 gr .442 for my Hawken. In the picture is my 409 gr RCBS 11mm rifle bullet on the left. The 550 gr is on the right. The quality control on these bullets is off the chart.

I sure wish all my casts turned out like that.

Kind of an off the wall question. How much force is required for sizing those?

I only ask because I am very limited on space and use a Lee hand press for most duties.

The bullet on the left was cast at .446 and wrapped. Then sized dry to .446 and they are ready to shoot. It doesn't take any effort at all to do that one.
I don't plan to size the PP bullets down much at all.

Thanks, I thought that would be the case. I am not going to be where I can cast much so will rely on purchased bullets.

I got 5 of these .442 400s from Ron to test in my 45 Cal Hotrod Renegade, i wrapped them with 2 wraps of 9# onion skin paper and sized them dry through my .448 sizing die, as to be expected you can't hardly tell when you push them through the sizing die, just snugs the paper up a bit. I shot these at 70 yards, they did really well! I shot one of my 11mm rifle bullets the first shot to see where i was at and it was way high, if you look straight above the group i shot you will see that first shot in the wood, i made a large sight move and then shot the group.

The target picture is turned sideways for some reason? Like i said in the previous post the first shot was to see where i was at and it was high in the wood directly above the group, i made a sight move and shot a 4 shot group, the old piece of plyboard i used was garbage for backing so the target tore a bit at the holes. My barrel is a Green Mountain LRH 1:30 twist, i use a Lyman 57SML Tang mounted peep, Lyman 17AHB Globe front sight with a lee shavers insert, i used 80 grains of Swiss 2F powder, and a .50 Cal Oxyoke over powder wad. I use oversize wads for better gas seal. In my 45 i use 50 cal wads, in my 50 i use 54 cal wads, and in my 54s i use 58 cal wads.

Forgot to ask in another thread. Are you guys using #11 percussion caps or something else? If you do use #11, do you use regular steel nipples or do you get the expensive ones?

I use regular RMC or Treso #11 nipples, My first choice in caps is the RWS 1075 plus, but they are twice the cost of CCI Magnum caps, i use both.

Forgot to mention, i have used the high dollar platinum lined nipples but i gave up on them for no good reason other than cost. I can get the Treso or RMC nipples locally so thats the route i go. Idahoron has a lot more experience with the platinum lined nipples than i do.
