The sight of our flag brings out many emotions for many of us. At the end of that flight the flag was on the ground. It has been used for patches on torn pants, clothing and all sorts of ways by those who haven't a clue. I say WOW in disgust. That piece of video however it affects you is NOT patriotic.

In spite of the laxity in following proper Flag Etiquette, the presentation was INTENDED to be patriotic.
Intent is the governing factor. When disrespect is the intent, it is usually obvious.
That video did not show any obvious disrespect.

Bishopgrandpa, I know Paul McGowan personally and have jumped with him on many occasions and he is not disrespectful of the flag in ANY way. There are catchers out there in order to, TRY, and make sure the flag does not touch the ground. Trust me there is no more patriotic individual in this country. As MC pointed out the intent was for that not to happen.
I have overseen official flag lowerings while in the Army when the wind was so bad at taps that the garrison flag touched the ground along with GIs, and there was no ill intent in these ceremonies. You do the best you can under the circumstances. But should we have brought these soldiers up on charges, I think not.
If that doesn't make your chest swell and bring a tear to your eye you have ice water in your veins.

I was there at that show and that video does't show half of it, with the planes circling the flag. You had to be there. The best air show I was ever at. I saw nothing unpatriotic there just the people scambling to stop it from the ground. I will try to post my own pictures if I can figure it out (my son is not home).

Looks pretty patriotic to me. I imagine it may be hard to catch a 30'X50' flag without it touching the ground.

I'm really sorry I missed it. Those guys that flew the Mustangs are disappearing way to fast. There may never be another gathering.

I don't doubt their intentions. I see so much ignorance regarding the flag and it's meaning to the people that have and are seeing it, supporting it, and fighting for it as a symbol of a great nation. I may be on a soapbox, but the slightest bit of lack of attention to these things will come back to bite us as they already have in some instances. I appreciate your replies and do apologize to the people who meant well. To the others I say "Love it or leave it".

Nice video,
don't think it would have been the same if he use a 3'x6' flag....
there is a difference is respecting and disrespecting the flag. You should know the difference.

I agree MC the intent was patriotic, even though they did let it touch the ground. I am the flag keeper at work, we have three US MS and a company certification. I do my best to keep them all off the ground and also make sure the US is the first up and the last down. To many people died for it to maintain it any other way than right.
