Didn't realize I mis-sorted my brass and ended up putting the 8mm mauser brass through the 35 rem die. I'm surprised it actually worked but hey, could be interesting.
Upfront, yes I know this is not going in a mauser or a 35 rem chamber, dont worry.

I just wonder what I made, does it exist yet? It actually looks pretty cool.

Here's a picture of it next to a 35 rem load, for scale.

i just did it once, and figured hey... what if... and just put a 35 rem 200gr bullet in it for giggles.

Google 9x57.

Been around a long time. Sits between the .358 Win and .35 Whelen.

One of Paul Mauser's ideas, don't think it's pantable!

At .355 it's 9x57 Mauser from around 1900.

At .358 and AIed it's a funny named wildcat, 357(or 8) Mauser Wallop -- within a sneeze of a Whelen.

It is very like the 9x57, although of course likely to be differently headspaced. If it fits a 9x57 chamber and the extractor holds the case head against the bolt face, it would probably fireform perfectly as such.

I'd be thinking of running it all the way into the Remington die, to get a .35 Remington with extended neck. That should be a great improvement for use with cast bullets with a long bearing surface and more lube grooves.

I almost broke my desk getting it out, haha even with lube. Went in easy enough didn't want to come out. Yep 358. .35 constantine is born hahaha

Sorry I beat you to it by 40 yrs. I made a 22-270 also and a 7.62 X57 as well while playing at the loading bench as a youth. Best, Thomas.

That must be close to tearing through the rim. If you ever get around to doing it deliberately, do the forming without the expander ball. Then if necessary you can use a metal rod to knock it out.

Yeah i cant imagine it stretching the brass that far easily... specially without it being annealed. (though it was a first use of new PPU brass). definitely dont want to do that without propper procedures next time :)

I wonder what an 8mm-.35 Remington might be like for a handi-rifle...

Hornady elliptical expanders.
I sit and watch TV and do 8 to 9.3mm with a hand press.
