I'm getting it off Google too, tried to change my search engine to Yahoo...still getting this phishing warning.

Where's a good Mod when you need one?

Since it affects all of us so far...it must be from the outside...someone screwing with us.

Every time I change pages it blocks the page until I push the ignore button.

But, it appears to only happen if I try to connect to the site from a browser that has also logged onto Google. If I connect to this site from a "private window", I do not get the red page warning.

Getting it too on a very secure linux box and all the browsers.

Leads me to believe something has been installed on the server that is less then honest.
More then likely by a 3rd party. CC's will be flying tomorrow due to BF shopping.

According to Google the site "has been reported." Probably just someone trying to screw with us by submitting a bogus warning to Google.

I won't stay away from Google...sometimes I want answers to questions...right now...and don't want to go through the hassle of trying to find what I am looking for by using the other search engines...I have used a LOT of them and none of them are in the same league as Google. I reported it as an anti-gun/anti-second amendment attack.

dsh1106 queried me by text message a few minutes ago inquiring if the site was down. I told him what I did and he ignored. When dsh1106 ignored, many new adware tabs opened up on his computer. Maybe there is adware/trojan here?

Ok, logged off, cleaned my cookie caches and rebooted the puter. Came back and got the red screen again. And yes, it's from Google via FireFox.

There has to be some sort of malware here doing this. Whether it was planted by some idiot gun hater or Google, (also a gun hater) is unknown. And that's the last of my nerd skills. But in order for the warning to come up there is something here activating it when you click on this site. Until that is gotten rid of, it will continue.

Ok, after actually doing a bit more reading on the following page which was linked to in the Red blocking page,
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-does-phishing-and-malware-protection-work?as=u&utm_source=inproduct

We probably have some sort of ad on this site that is malware. That has to be removed then the admins can request this forum to be removed from the malware list. These links are on the page I posted above. But this has to be done by an admin who has access to the internals of our forum. There is a bad ad somewhere and that's what the browsers are blocking.

I recommend everyone to run their anti-malware programs and see if anything turns up in their computers. Malwarebytes is a good one if you don't already have it. They have a free version.

OK, what I did as a temporary measure in order remove this annoying thing to happen was to open a Google page, go to settings, on the very bottom click on advance settings, then scroll a bit until Privacy, then UNCHECK the "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites". Then the problem stopped.
Now why Google consider CB a dangerous site is another issue which the administrators will probably fix it in a matter of time, so I can go back and check again what I unchecked.

This has been a common occurrence on gun related forums lately. IMO, a group of anti-gunners are going around to the various gun sites, and reporting them as phishing sites to Google. I've never been the vindictive type, but it makes me want to do the same thing to them (I wouldn't, though, as I refuse to stoop to their level).

Contrary to what some may think, doubt its some liberal plot. But more likely at some point in the last 12hrs, some hacker somewhere was making problems, and it got reported to firefox, so now they are warning people. I logged on just a few minutes ago and it gave the warning.

original title: Deceptive Site Ahead.

All of a sudden, I am getting a "Deceptive Site Ahead" warning when trying to access your site with Firefox. I am able to access your site without getting the warning using Internet Explorer. What's going on and what do I or you need to do? Thanks.

After reading more of the posts in this thread and another thread dealing with the same issue, I notice several browsers are flagging the site.

I know back in the day when I had a bit of knowledge of how sites were blocked, I found out that our blocked web sites came from a central data base owned by a third party. This party would upload sites to be blocked and were on contract to sell through continuous automatic upload to their customers. It could be that Google and other browsers are using a service such as this?

I have a fairly decent virus program and for the past couple of months my virus software has "intercepted" "infections" from this site. I would say 95% of the time I get no warnings from this sight but often times I can't go to other sites without restarting.

Someone out there may be messing with us, as this is a new wrinkle - nothing vicious, just annoying.

Hi...

I got the same warning today when I tried to access the site on my desktop unit in the den.
I get the same message when I access another site(tank net forums...that has been ongoing for quite some time[months]).

I think certain sites with a certain type of content(firearms, weapons, military, etc) are being targeted by some group(Google???).
No real proof but it seems strange...maybe someone with a deeper understanding of computers knows how to research this. I use computers but rely on others with specific skill sets to deal with the technical aspects thereof.

So far the problem seems to be with Google, Firefox and maybe one or two other browsers. I believe it is related to where these browsers get their flag or block site info. I would bet it is from the same source.

I have been able to get into our site without any flags or warnings using Internet Explorer and Safari.
My advice is to try another Browser if you have one to see if you can get in without warning until the problem is fixed.

No real proof

You are correct. In an earlier post in this thread, I mentioned something similar to this. A little more expanding of my knowledge from my previous post. When I was able to ask how the company was able to block or flag sites, what they used..
One of their answers was key words. I doubt that is what is flagging this site as you can probable open up other gun related sites without the warning.
I believe someone somehow added Cast Boolits to the data base that Google and some other Browsers use to flag sites.

I got it on both and older windows 7 machine (IE and Firefox) AND a windows 10 machine I am moving to (IE and Firefox). On both machines this didn't pop up until after windows updates last night. However the page report I filled out to assure these clowns that castboolits is safe went to google each and every single time. I would suspect the root of this issue is probably a security update that was done on the google parent servers.

I am getting this too, is there a genuine reason it could pop up (like an illegitimate 3rd party is intercepting data people send to the site?)? I'm not worried about the site owners or anyone on the site doing anything shady, but if someone else "hacked" it and can read pms for personal information that would be more concerning.

Well, when I erased the cookies and history it was blocked. I downloaded Firefox to my android and it was blocked. I went online when I got home and it was blocked in Firefox. I reported that it was done in error and ignored the warning and here I am. When you are blocked at least in Firefox a red screen pops up. You can hit a button that says "ignore this warning" and it will take you to Castboolits which now has a red banner at the top. On the left it says "deceptive site!" and on the right are 2 buttons. "Get me out of here"! and "This isn't a deceptive site". Hit the second one and it takes you to a screen that says "incorrect forgery alert" or something like that and you can report that this is a safe site.

Sometimes malware or phishing makes its way into a site without the owners knowledge and someone reports the site. The Owner should check that nothing is on it and then He can also fill out a google page to get removed.

Everyone should report that this is not a deceptive site to help this process along.

Remember several months ago when some people, including me, saw ads in the banner for hardcore porn for some reason? Same thing I think just happened again

Andy
11-25-2016, 02:26 PM
- In chrome you can click through the warning page by clicking "details" then "continue to this untrusted site"

- You can also "fix" this problem by going into your browser settings and changing things, for example in google chrome go to "settings" scroll down, click "advanced settings" and uncheck the box next to "protect my computer from risky sites" now you can access the site with no warnings

- I think there is some risk to this so I wouldn't transfer personal or payment info on this site until this gets resolved. I'm not a web expert so maybe I'm being too cautious with that but the fact that different people/locations/computers/browsers are all having this happen suggests it is more than a quirk. And it's black friday which would be the smartest day for an online scammer to try something new.

- People who aren't getting it may just have their browser settings set to not block risky sites, this could be something you set up years ago, you would be at the same risk as anyone else in that case.

I won't stay away from Google...sometimes I want answers to questions...right now...and don't want to go through the hassle of trying to find what I am looking for by using the other search engines...I have used a LOT of them and none of them are in the same league as Google. This is my experience...glad yours is better.

shoot-n-lead, not trying to talk you out of using Google, but as far as search engines go, one of the best I've used is dogpile.com. It searches multiple search engines (I believe that includes Google) and does not edit or blacklist subjects or topics from its results.

If you disable the "protect my computer from risky sites", you run a good chance of having unwanted and truly dangerous sites that run in the background on other pages infect your computer. Some of the news sites are bad about this.

Wise Owl
11-25-2016, 04:39 PM
Startpage search engine uses Google to do it's searches but blocks any tracking "by" Google. It's safe to use. Doesn't track you at all.
And you're search engines or browsers have nothing to do with the problem. The problem is above in those ads. Someone has hacked them at "their" owners sites. Yes, even Cabelas can be hacked.

I can go away and then come back in with no problems but if I clean my cookies using CCleaner Free or one of my other anti-**** programs, I get the warning again. Seeing as it's so many different browsers affected then it is something here triggering the response by your browsers security.

And yes, it's up to Castboolits owners/geeks to find the problem and fix it. In the meantime I will be running anti-malware programs just in case it gets into our machine here at home.

Mostly it's just annoying except to those who are getting popups. Those people need to up their security a bit or not. Ad blocking software addons to your browsers might help also. I see mine are blocking 3 ads at the moment.

One of the prime targets for hacking to spread malware is the servers that provide advertising content across many websites. Since the ads will appear on legitimate sites people will be less suspicious. So if hackers can get the advertising servers to serve up their malware they are more likely to get victims.

Browsers are getting better at spotting content being added to the site that is suspicious. Time magazine and assorted news and commercial companies web sites have been in that position where ads on their site were links to malware or cross site attack.

The other thing is sometimes the certificates used by hosting companies to validate the identity of web sites and allows HTTPS (secure https) communication to work will expire or something will change that makes the certificate information not match the server or site. Browsers will and should warn people about that. If the certificate is not valid no way to know if the site is a "fake" version pretending to be a legitimate site or just a clerical error that makes the certificate appear invalid.

The warning, (Red Page) is not the fault of your browser or a search engine. Cast boolits has been hacked with malware. It's happened before and they did it again. Probably in the ads at the top of the page. Just because you click ignore and can read and post doesn't make the problem better. Unless you are running antimalware on your machine or iphone, you can pick up whatever it is that the malware is trying to install on your machine.

Cast Boolits has a bug somewhere.

Hope that was clear enough.

The above statement makes sense because when I click to still go on that evil malefic site Google is warning me about it, opens but not completely. To open it completely I have to go on the browser bar where my anti-malware icon is and click on the icon and specifically ask to open the site completely.
At first only a part of the adds are visible, after I purposely ask for completely opening of the site all the adds opens up. I guess is one of those adds who carry a sort of bug or something.

Windows XP, Chrome gives me the same warning. Details indicate some type of phishing scheme.

Same here. Firefox on my android, and Chrome on the laptop. Probably a disgruntled Hillary voter.
Has anyone noticed any problems on any other gun related website?

I submitted my report and said this is a public FORUM, that no software is installed here.

Me too, If you use Firefox, Open up the castboolits main page, copy it, and then open up the menu on the far right top of page, the three horizontal lines.
Click on OPTIONS, then on left side, Security. then TOP line far right - EXCEPTIONS and then Past the castboolits link and then the ALLOW button.

Now how do you do it on an Android that has Firefox? Cant find the options.

In all browsers (firefox, chrome, etc) there are security settings that you personally can adjust. Mine (Firefox) and many others default to "Block reported phishing sites". You can change that if you want. I changed mine and it does not give me a phishing warning about this site.

Thanks to the Leadership for getting on this... I bet this site has an infinite amount of knowledge available should anyone ask for it. It seems boolet casting pulls in the over curious from all fields.....
