It has been a frustrating deer season this year. Yesterday temps were in the 70"s too warm during archery deer season. This morning we had 34 mph winds and clouds but since our deer season is broken up into a 3 day and two four day weekends I went out. I decided that the climbing tree stand would stay home and I would hunt a relatively sheltered bottom where I had seen deer earlier. My procedure when not using the climber is to pick a big white oak tree to set against on higher ground overlooking as much of the tangle of scrub in the bottom as I can. Not a sexy strategy but it has worked for me in this area and similar ground in the past. I was packing my favorite 5 1/2" Bisley .44 loaded with the NOE 265 Ranch dog boolit with conventional lube grooves over 22.0 of H110. Not a sexy load it just works.

About 7:30 this guy came along with his nose to the ground. I "blatted" at him extra loud he stopped and I squeezed off a shot. I had been aiming for a double shoulder lung shot but one of us moved and I hit him with a high shoulder spine shot. He dropped in his tracks and I finished him with a heart shot. Range lasered at 50 yards. Mrs. Thumbcocker brought the truck and helped me drag him out. (Definition of a good woman.)

I can't flip it either, sometimes that just happens.

Very nice! Weather has been much to warm here, and I havnt even gone out after my white tail or elk. I lucked out and have a mule deer step across the road I front of my on the way back from work on opening day and dropped her with my 300 blackout. I would use to be in a area where a guy could get a close enough shot to use a handgun.

Good job! Loves me some Bisley. There have been several Michigan white tails deposited into my freezer on behalf of the Bisley.

Good for you! The weather sucks for sitting in a stand but you figured out a way to get on the deer.

Very well done. Although I stopped hunting a few years ago, shooting a deer with a handgun is one thing I would have really have liked to have done. My congredulations to the both of you. I can tell from some of your past posts how supportive Mrs.TC is. You are a lucky man. Jeepyj

The high temps really did affect the deer hunting this year, not sure our rut is even in full swing like it usually is already.

Very nice deer, I like how tall that rack is.
