I got involved in a discussion out at the gun club range the other day about where this country is headed and what might happen to gun owning rights. It was speculated that the gummint would have one helluva time taking our guns from us. Never mind getting the laws passed, it could lead to a revolution.

One gentleman suggested the method they would use would be to ban handgun ammunition. If you can't feed it, you can't shoot it. After thinking of this for awhile, it occured to me that this is a very real possibility.

We could start stocking up on powder and primers and be prepared to roll our own for quite some time. However, if they make it illegal to discharge a handgun, even on private property, how are we gonna shoot without having the law show up to arrest us?

This could lead to a God awful mess. There are people that will die or kill for their gun rights. There are policemen that will quit their jobs because they refuse to shoot their neighbor for defending their gun rights. There are soldiers that will mutiny for the same reasons.

Or they could quietly arrange for everything to become so expensive that people slowly turn away from shooting to pursue more economical interests. It wouldn't take much effort for the Government to load up ammunition- under the guise of "theres a war on", causing shortages in the public sector. These shortages would also eventually lead to higher prices. More people would then take up golf, and more civilized recreations. Nah, that's crazy talk. "They" would never do that.

Had a conversation several nights ago with a fellow forum member. He was travelling through Illinois, saw a gun shop going out of business. He stopped and found quite a bit of reloading components that he could use. Went to pay and was asked for his FOID card. Not being a resident of IL, he had no FOID, so he could not purchase the items. (bullets and gas checks)

Remember the proposed OSHA rule changes in '07? In the guise of Worker Protection Safety, OSHA wanted to reclassify primers and smokeless powder to explosives. For gun shops to comply with the proposed changes would have been cost prohibitive.

IMO, the PTB and anti's have realized that new laws to restrict our gun rights have a slim to none chance of being passed. So, just make it more difficult and expensive to persue our hobby.
