I just poured my first cup of coffee and fired up the computer:coffee:....first news story I see is how the U.S. Post Office is suffering due to the outrageous cost of fuel. From reading the article it becomes pretty clear that those dandy flat rate boxes we all ship bullets in are going to be a thing of the past in the near future. Combine that with all the hoopla about the "dangers of lead" (California Condor) and I just realized I'd better start shovelling wheel weights into storage...as many as I can find.

Yet another example...the whole D@#^ thing (USPS) should be privatized. Let UPS/Fed-Ex/DHL or whoever else bid on providing service to different regions of the country.

I agree......I can still remember when letter postage was under 10 cents. Might never see that again, but jeez...postal rate increases have become the "norm" rather than the exception.

not only that but there is a federal law that says any body competing with the usps
must charge at least double their price.
ups and fed-x just does a little happy dance everytime they hear of a price increase,
even though they already charge more than double.

If they stop giving discount to bulk junk mailers, they wouldn't have to raise the postage, or we would get less junk mail...Win-Win

The USPS LOVES the bulk-rate folks. They do the heavy (labor-intensive) work of sorting the stuff, so USPS actually makes money on the bulk-rate stuff.
