During World War II the Royal Navy built some 650 Fairmile B motor launches to keep the Germans on their side of the Channel. One of the last remaining is on eBay.

The “Fair B’s” were rushed into production (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairmile_B_motor_launch) in 1940 using prefab components from shops large and small across the UK to churn out literally hundreds of these 112-foot boats. Armed with a Quick Firing 3-pounder (47mm) Hotchkiss popgun as a hood ornament and some machine guns aft, they carried enough depth charges to scratch the paint on interloping U-boats while patrolling the coastline.
They later proved invaluable during the invasion of Normandy on D-Day, poking along the beaches and pulling off the wounded and drowning.

After the war, most were quickly disposed of though a few remain.
One of whom, ML 357, since renamed Jamaica Moon and turned into a houseboat, is moored in Essex at Clacton-on-Sea, in what is termed a very “picturesque area.”

She may look rough in her camo gray, but she has four cabins, internet point, satellite connection, washing machine, cast iron bath, Victorian sink, cast iron cistern and toilets.

http://14544-presscdn-0-64.pagely.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/s-l160ss0-660x371.jpgShe is currently moored in a “picturesque area” for about $950 per quarter, if you want to keep her “where-is, as-is.”

She also has a lot of history (http://uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/14525.html) that comes with her. She is on the National Historic Ships UK register (http://www.nationalhistoricships.org.uk/register/2699/ml-357)plus the current owner has some oral history to pass on.
“ML 357 has a long and interesting history, some documented some verbal. She has sunk a sub and picked up secret agents in the war, and in the 60s was a hippies commune, in the 70s a Buddhist shrine!!” reads the auction.

Price? Ł32,000.00 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=322300796596) or about $39,000, though they are apparently open to negotiation.
According to one website, she is one of just four Fairmile B’s left in the UK (http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/Fairmile-B_ML357.html).
Too bad she doesn’t still have the depth charges.

If they'd pay me 2 million dollars to take it. That and about 16,000 hours of labor would make her usable and livable.

Do you have a link?

I can not find it on ebay us or ebay uk.

That's some thick looking Water there that it's moored in...

Might want to add the cost of Hiring a Tug Boat for a day I think.

"Ran well when parked"?

With the piracy phenomenon, it might make a decent yacht to cruise the Carribean in these days. Armaments help with pirates. I think I'd add a few more, though. Four twin .50's would be nice, and a 20mm. would be really desirable. That ought to take care of most pirates these days, I'd think.

At 110' long, it'd take some milder "rough water," but I'd definitely avoid REAL storms in something that size! I went through two typhoons in a 355' Navy ship, and that's something I hope NEVER to have to do again! Might even, with the right engines, make a nice platform for trolling for blue marlin.

Seriously, there are some marine research folks who'd do well to buy the old gal, I think. It'd be a good size, I'd think, for carrying submersibles and other equipment. Could be a real adventure in many ways, but marine research would be the most profitable, I'd think. Sure hope someone with deep pockets gets it and fixes her up like she deserves.

they are paying almost 4-G a year to keep it docked in a mud hole from the looks of things,
no wonder they wanna part with it.

I wonder if the twin merc's are the trolling motors?

I would take it at that price if they agreed to drop ship her at their expense to either Lake Mead of Flathead Lake for me.

I think Cast Boolits needs a Navy!! We should get one of those Go Fund things set up and see if we can get it set up to cruise from England to the US for refitting. We could take turns being the skipper!! I am sure we have enough old salts here to get it in shape. Say, maybe we could lease it out to the NRA!
