i went shooting at a range near Ft. Bragg a couple of days ago and found some interesting brass.

As I was sorting my brass by headstamp, I noticed some stamped "FIB 78 11.25x23"

These are brass cases that are BERDAN primed. These are newly fired.

What I don't know is: is there a new importer for what appears to me old metric military stock, or just someone shooting shooting up excess ammo.

I realize that now with small primers becoming more and more common. People aren't just throwing brass in their progressives.

This is something 45 acp loaders might want to keep an eye out for.

Thanks also for the screening. Sometimes I don't always look in the flash hole. I know I should. Were you able to catch a photo of the headstamp?

Thanks again,
Victor

That is surplus Argentina made ammo from someone's stash.

We are the only ones still using inches. So the rest of the world knows the 45 ACP as 11.25x23. Not sure what foreign military would have made 45. And if they did, probably havent in quite a while.

All you fellas who don't de-cap and clean first will find them easy enough...they'll be right there in the sizer die...you know, the one with a bent or broken pin!

No!
Most all Norwegian ammo is/was made at Raufoss and they never fell for the Berdan primer fad introduced by the Mauser brothers.

Be on the look out for "NT" brass as well. And not just in 45. It's being made for a bunch of common cartridges. I've come across a lot of it lately. Larger flash hole, which is brand dependent further complicating things, is going to be a problem w/ regular primers.

Like he said and of a 1978 vintage.

The small primer stuff makes me mad enough I just throw it away, I'm not going to load the same cartridge with two different primers. Never even thought about 45 ever being berdan primed.

I have chronographed "NT" brass with the same load in regular flash hole and did not find much difference.

I always de prime and inspect range brass before I wet tumble, so i don't get any surprises later.

I see more shooters using small primer .45 and it loads really smooth on my 550.

Well, throw it in my direction, would ya? I keep a stash of SP .45 bbrass on hand, just in the even that LP primers may be hard to come by. Say, after the election.

I separate mine out as I find it and stash it in a bag. Once I have enough to make it worthwhile I'll load it up or trade it for LP version. Just depends what I have when the time comes.

I went through the couple five gallon buckets I had and separated them all by primer size. I sold off all the LP because at the time it was the only cartridge I loaded that required one. Things were great and I didn't have to keep LP primers on hand. Then for some reason I decided to buy 2k from Starline even though I had buckets full already. And of course they are LP. At least I have a 10mm so I need LP primers now anyway. The cartridge doesn't need a large pistol primer and they should have switched over decades ago.
