Hello. I received a Uberti made 1885 high wall with pistol grip and double set triggers. I feel it is a very nice piece. I have tried some 250 gr and 335 gr cast boolits. I think I need something in the middle. I am having a hard time keeping the bigger bullet stable with my 1:18" twist. Do any of you know of a 265-300gr, flatbase mould that has some sort of point instead of a flatpoint? Thanks

................Good luck with your rifle. I have the exact same and it's at the warrenty repair place due to a pitifull barrel.

Pretty rifles, but I think they get their barrels from Afghani hill tribesmen. If you get a good one, lucky you!

With the 18" twist about 310grs is the most you can go. Most really streamlined slugs are heavy, and intended for faster twists. The 38-55 was originally a 200 yard target cartridge, and transitioned to a medium range hunting round. No need for a pointy nose.

Have you slugged yours yet? Mine was .373"x .3794". NEI at: http://www.neihandtools.com/catalog.html lists a 277gr pointy PB slug and show it at .378", but it will probably cast a thou or 2 larger. There's also Mountain Moulds where you can design your own.

I have a Uberti Hi-Wall in 38-55, I installed a Marbles tang sight with windage adjustment. I use Lyman bullet #375449 sized .379, it is a gas check bullet and weighs approxmately 282grs when made from Lyman #2. I load it on 30.1grs of Reloder 7. this is a very accurate load, it consistently shoots five shoot groups near one minute of angle. it makes an impressive show on the two hundred yard gong.

Thank you all for the help. I will be checking these out. Thanks for the reload info as well.
Buckshot, I read your posts about your barrel. It is a bummer you got a bad one. Sounds like to me they are doing you right. At least they want to make it right for you.

.............That remains to be seen. They've been exceptionally courteous, open and communicative so far, and the guy at the warrenty place seems to be a fine person. I'm hoping against hope.
