Was digging around my gun room and found my old muzzleloader box and in it was a brand new box of Hornady round balls and a few sabot slugs. No longer have the muzzleloader and was going to throw them in the melter, but was wondering what hardness they typically are and if they would work for casting boolits. Will likely be mixed it with some other harder stuff...

ML projectiles, either RB or conical = soft lead.

Number 1-2 bhn is as soft as you can get. Thats what we use.
Just pure lead.

Good to know; I'll throw them in the pot sparingly with my hard lead...

Isn't pure lead 5 bhn ?

In a revolver, pure or you can break your loading lever. In a rifle wrapped in cloth it matters little if it is harder - I've used ww's successfully in mine.
