After almost 30 years I finally shot my Chronograph.

MY Colt 1911 did the deed with my help. Held a bit low

This 230 grain JHP did the trick

A lot of rounds have went over this old chronograph, but it just takes one to join the club..........Terry

I did the same thing the other day, the only chrono that I have ever owned. I guess that I have been lucky over the years. I shot the rod that holds the screen...bent it nearly double. I straightened it as best I could, put it back on and continued, without issue. Talk about feeling like a fool...but thankful that I did not kill it.

I shot mine with the Contender...luckily, did a half job of it.

lol. Well they there's only 2 types of chrono owners. Those that have shot their chrono and those that are going to ;). I'll pull the trigger and get one eventually.

I replaced my rods with wooden dowels. Rods don't count :Fire:

Just to be clear, what is the purpose of the plastic mounted in front of that Chrony?

I have one on my chronograph to protect the read out screen from boolit lube and errant gas checks.

Sorry for your loss. Never say never, I've owned a chronograph of one sort or the other for 40 years, and have not yet shot one. However, I used to brag that after owning 6 Gold Wing motorcycles, I had never tipped one over. I broke my lucky streak last year when my foot slipped in the gravel. Man they are heavy!

I know the feeling... My Harley Road King is only slightly less than a "Lead Wing" and with my bum knee, it's definitely not fun if it goes over or if it starts leaning too much to that side. It takes "technique"... It's not like the sport bikes where you can just grab it buy the handlebars and toss it back upright...

I was shooting a 6.5 sweed one day and I noticed that the gas checks were coming off of the boolits so I put that plexiglass on the front to stop the checks from impacting the front of the crony. Also helped keep boolit lube from splattering all over the front readout..........Terry

Might want to rethink that plexiglass thing... Maybe a remote display chrony and an AR500 plate in front of the chrony instead? :)

Chrony will take that as a trade-in. I had a 22 caliber gas check go thru the display on my old Chrony, same model as yours. I forgot to put the plexi-glass on the front that day. I upgraded to one with the display on the bench

I put a piece of 1/2" thick Lexan in front of my sky screens to protect them from wads and lubes. I attached it with 2 1/4" bolts thru the tubing mount. That stuff is tough and resiliant. It woukld stop bullets also though I never found out. The issue with a heavy steel plate at 10'-15' is if hit the splatter richochet may be dangerous to shooter or others on the line. The piece of leaxan was light enough that a bullet impact would still tip the screens over and absorb alot of the impact. A heavy 1/2" A500 plate hanging out front might give to much resistance to impact.

Yea I thought about the steel plate but at 15 feet if it was hit splatter would be pretty bad. The plexiglass worked good on gas checks just not so well with a 45 bullet.

So far I only have a dent in mine from a .22 cal pellet rifle. Hope I learned my lesson...

Then put a couple of lead bricks in front of it. I shot one with a 2000 fps .22 TCM and it makes an interesting looking crater in the lead brick.
