I recently purchased a Lyman 450 resizing press from evilbay. I have looked at all of the threads I can find and emailed Lyman with no results. I am casting 9mm boolits using a Lee 356-125-2R six cavity mold. What top punch will work for this press?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Jim

Might sound a little dumb but did you try emailing Lee and asking them the question? They have always seemed to be helpful to me and they are the ones that would know. Lee

Good idea, I will email Lee. Haven't heard a sound from Lyman.

Thanks,

Jim

Most likely because it's not their bullet. I would find a Lyman bullet that is close to the same nose as the Lee then use some quick set epoxy to custom contor the punch to fit. This has worked well for me.

Lyman has an excellent customer service department. Just give them a call and they should be able to help.
there is several lists on the castpics site that have top punches and the molds listed. http://www.castpics.net/

I looked to see which one I was using, but it is one I customized with epoxy. DALE

I got a ? I have started sizing boolits and I did not have a top punch for a SWC it being a flat faced boolit i used a brass rod that fit my sizer to push my bullet down. Looks like its working fine not disfroming the boolits but its not cupping them like alot of top punches is that a bad thing?

There's nothing wrong with the way you're doing it Ricky P, the only thing you have to watch for is that the boolit doesn't tip out of straight alignment as it enters the die.

Thanks 454PB sometimes what you think is ok may have effects on other things you have not even though of.

Lee does not show top punch numbers as the system they use calls for none. Look and find a Lyman bullet mold thats close to your Lee and go with it. A Dremel tool can be used to make small changes. Or use the $12.68 lube size kit That Lee offers.

[smilie=1:I don't know if everyone else has had great experience Lyman but they sure didn't do me any favors over a set of dies, they were mic'ed and checked by their staff and they told me they were close enough. Alas that was the last set of dies from Lyman I will own.
