The Commemorative Air Force flies the Sentimental Journey B-17 out of Mesa Az. Her four engines were made by the Studebaker car co. !

Used to be one based not too far from here. Been awhile since I've seen it. Can't recall her name.

Here's the plate off of the inboard starboard engine on Aluminum Overcast. Got to hop a ride in it from Gillespie Field in El Cajon Ca. to it's next stop at Torrance Airport some years ago...

Thank you so much for posting these photos. I recall Aluminum Overcast coming to the airshow at Millville N.J. some years ago. At that time WWII Vets were 70+ and abundant, I watched as one man walked up to the aircraft, fell to his knees and covered his face weeping aloud. He was the sole survivor of a B17 that went down in the English Channel, I learned from his daughter as we helped him to the medic's tent. I had the opportunity, later, to shake his hand and thank him for his sacrifice. He didn't think he had done anything special, "it was those who died who sacrificed, I came home" he said. He didn't regret what he did and I will always cherish the memory of meeting so fine a man. That's why it's important to fly these birds and remember the greatest generation who flew them out of love for us who were not yet born!
