I have a Lyman mould that drops a .3805 boolit for a Winchester Legendary Frontiersman. Just got home from the range and am mining some lead out of it. It's not the worst I've experienced but is impacting accuracy quite a bit. Have any recommendations? I looked around to find some and all I found was that mould. I sized to the same so it barely touched the boolit.

Accurate can cut any diameter you want. Delivery is about 3-4 weeks.

Have you slugged your barrel?
You could try powder coating to add some girth.

.3795 slugged. .0005 is a little too slim a margin eh?

I have a Lyman 380681 I could be persuaded to part with. I can't remember precisely what diameter it casts but it will size to .381 with WW + 2% alloy. Mold is fine and casts good boolits. I have an Accurate mold now and it performs better in my rifle. I simply have no need of this mold anymore.
PM if interested.

Hey there mustanggt -- Tom at Accurate should have you covered. http://www.accuratemolds.com/index.php Just include the drop diameter you desire when filling out the ordering information.

I'm a big fan of the 38-250B as it's a bore rider, has plenty of room for lube, and shoots like a million bucks when coupled with Starline brass.

Hope this helps. Best regards. Wind

Thank you for the kind offer. I ordered the Accurate mould that Wind posted before I saw both of your replies. I am using Starline brass as well.

Good mould. My LF likes it, my 1902 vintage 1894 likes it.

Another fan of the 380250B. It shoots well in my marlin 93.

I had Tom modify the 38-250D for me and it drops the bullets at 0.382" which fits my Marlin 1893 perfect. It casts about 255 gr with my alloy.

I am still experimenting with the loads and so far 24.0 gr RL 7 have proven accurate with a 7 shot 1.25" at 50 yds and clocks a tad under 1500 fps. I was going for a 10 shot group but ran out of ammo.

I am working with IMR 4198 and plan to see what we can do with some 2F. I think I am gonna hunt with it come November.

Forgot to add that I contacted James Sage at Sage's Outdoors and he made me up some plain base gas checks to fit my bullets and they do fit nice and snug.

Very good company to deal with.

I am experimenting with and without them.....just to see what works.

I would however also look at getting some of the Starline 38-55 Thin brass as semi noted by Wind. And they can be purchased directly from Starline. :)

I would agree that the Starline brass is good and is usually cheaper when buying direct from them.

I bought a bag of 250 pcs of the long brass. Beautiful stuff.

This is probably one of the few instances that to purchase an item at a cheaper cost is not the main reason to purchase lol.

The main reason to purchase the Thin 38-55 brass from Starline is because due to the fact that a person may have to use what some would call a very fat Boolit to fit the bore of say .382-.384 or so depending on the bore to get good accuracy the chamber may not be large enough to accommodate said size Boolit in the case to allow easy chambering of the round or enough case expansion to allow the release of the Boolit from the case. Or even in some instances that one may have as mentioned a very nice Boolit sized at .382 or so after expanding the case to take said Boolit without distortion to then be sized down upon chambering thus making the Boolit smaller in diameter and maybe not fitting the bore correctly.

But these things will only be known by the person doing the loading in there particular rifle. :)

On a side note if one wishes to push the 38-55 H-322 is an excellent powder. And there are many others if you go over to Ranch Dog Outdoors. :) He no longer makes molds but some companies still carry his designs. But there is extensive powder and load notes for his Boolit designs.

A couple slugs cast from the mould Drill a blind hole for a 1/8" key stock stem 1/12" long and glue into bullets base. A little very fine lapping compound or polishing compund and you can lapp a .001 - .002 bigger pretty quickly. Use a t handle tap wrench on the stem and rotate back and forth ( like tapping a hole) 3-4 times and rotate 90* repeat thru 2 full rotations and clean and cast a few bullets to measure. If more is needed repeat above with the next bullet. Go slow and check often as in this 1 gets you 2. If you remove .001 on a side it .002 on the dia. SO you really need to remove .0005-.001 on the sides. Otherwise one of the custom makers Noe, Accurate, Brooks, or old west should be able to help you out
