Acquired this mold. Did a search and not a lot of info for the heavy.
My aim is to use IMR 4227 or SR 4759. Anyone use these powders with this boolit??
.30-06 starts at 21 gr. and goes up to 27.7 max for the SR 4759 for the 210 gr. Lyman boolit.

Thinking of starting at 20 and working up. They Lyman book only has 8mm up to 165 gr.
Suggestions folks??

I load them with 35gr of H4895 and got about 1,850fps and they were pretty accurate.

I use the same boolit in several of my mausers, and I use 4759 but I'd have to look at my notes, cause I can't remember the load. They are a pleasure to shoot! I've tried 4895, but never was happy the accuracy.

8x57 or 8mm-06?

Here is a Handloader article on the 8mm-06 from 2003. I agree with the author that its a good cartridge in the middle between a 30-06 and a 338-06.

I'd recommend using Heavy (220gr+) 30-06 load data with equivalent bullet weights in the 8mm-06

If you are suggesting 8x57, I always considered the bullet to be too big for the 8x57 for legitimately decent velocity and for shots past 100 yards. That said, it would be Teutonic Hammer of Thor within that range (100 yards) or if fired from the 8mm-06 on out to 200 yards.

This boolit, the 8mm MAX, is too heavy to use. Drops at 244.2 grains.
The mold is a candidate for Buckshot to flycut the top down.

That is about what mine drop at, 252 gr checked and lubed out of coww. This is a good hunting bullet at 1800 fps+-, one shot to the spine/neck on an 1100 pound bison cow at 50yds and she just dropped onto her hooves, drt. Barnes has published 8mm data for 250 gr bullets

Barnes has published 8mm data for 250 gr bullets. I use 35.0 gr of WC846 plus 3/4 gr Dacron for 1882 fps

Definitely a short-range proposition in 8x57 but I'm sure it would be very effective when used properly.

I shoot the Lee max in My GEW 98 but I shoot light loads for target shooting. I use Receiver Rear and Aperture Front sights on a 3 " black bull at 50 yds
I like the Bulkier Flake powders Like Unique and American Select I never measured the speed but it is down around 1100-1300 fps but they are very accurate.
