I have an old Obermeyer 5 R that has only seen lead slugs...I want to try some old Fowler 30 cal 150 gr. Jacketed.I want to strip the barrel down to steel...Ideas please....Charlie

Normal cleaning should work unless you have leading. After brushing run solvent-soaked patches until they come out clean. If they're discolored or contain flecks of grey, you're not finished. Don't even worry about the lube.

I just like the old Hoppe's...Not the benchrest stuff...I was going to start with lacquer thinner ...I expect no lead deposits... Charlie

Yick.
Not a Hoppe's fan but it does work and if you like it, by all means use it.
Switching from lead to copper is easy.
