I'm sure this topic has been discussed, but "search" gave me nothing relative. I saw a thread on another forum about lead free casting, and of course can here immediately to find facts. But alas,"search" only had a vague reference to a 2009 thread. So, I bring it up again. Pros and cons of cast bismuth bullets? I know bismuth is lighter and harder than lead, but what about other qualities?

From what I understand, Bismuth is brittle and shatters instead of deforming on impact. I suppose you could add enough tin to it to maybe get decent expansion; or at least non shattering, but I don't know for sure.

There was a link in the shotgun section about making bismuth shot that made a lot of sense to me.

More expensive, less malleable, and different density. Load data would have to be determined and terminal performance would have to be retested. There would have to be a compelling reason to start over with bismuth.

they used to make Bi bullets that were called safety bullets for banging on steel so they would just shatter on impact.
the cost is about as prohibitive as using silver.

Total lead ban is a good reason. I foresee it happening in CA...
