Anyone tried cast in this one lately? I may have the chance to pick one up at a good price.

treat it like a 35 whelen or a 358 win. in load selection and you'll have the same results.

My understanding is that it is essentially a short action 35 Whelen.

Those 600's are neat little rifles. All the ones that I know of are shooters. Mine is in 222 Remington.

basically the same capacity.
if they wouldn't have put the belt on the case it would have probably went somewhere.

Never owned one or shot a Remington 600 in 350 magnum, however, I have a good acquaintance that purchased one and fired 3 rounds and sold that rifle to someone a month later with the remaining 17 loaded cartridges.;-) He stated that particular great looking, compact rifle kicked the snot out of him from the bench.

He was a 300 Weatherby guy and thought the Remington 600's small, compact size would be the perfect big bore brush rifle. He would have given me that rifle but I had a 378 Weatherby that kicked hell out of me from the bench and didn't need another one!!!

Well, turns out the guy didnt know what he had. He brought it to work and took it out of the case. Yes, it is a 350 Mag but its a Rem 700 not a 600.

The belted brass gives me pause. Availability is a question. I wonder if i could reform Weatherby belted or something else. I have a 35 Whelen already but this seemed like something interesting to play around with

Brass is still available, but easily formed from any belted magnum parent case (7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, etc.). You might have to watch neck thickness though if you shorten and reform other belted brass. I've owned several 600 Magnums in 6.5 Rem Mag and .350 Rem Mag, even had one of the very early production .35 Remington guns before the .350 RM was introduced. I had one that was custom re-barreled into .458x2" American and it kicked just a WEE bit more than the .350 RM! Good guns and I never had one that didn't shoot. The RCBS 200 grain cast boolit or any mould that is a clone of it should perform well in that rifle.

I can safely agree with the description of the 600 in 350 mag. and its recoil, `Been there done that`! I actually think that my .416 Taylor with 400 gr. SP `J` loads kicks a bit less, must be that barrel length thing again.Robert

350 RM brass is easily formed from Federal 7mm Mag brass without any need to deal with neck thickness. That is the first step in forming 6.5 RM brass. Run the parent case into a 350 RM FL die and trim to length. I think that will work just fine as is. When going the rest of the way down to 6.5 RM you do end up with just a hint of an internal donut.

The 700 Classic, made in just one yr, ~85-86 or so, I'm going to guess for that rifle ?? A short-action, good design.

A great rifle with a more-standard bbl contour; not a lightweight like the 600/660 so recoil wouldn't be as bad.
If you're on the fence I say, go for it. :-)

I don't think the belt was the problem, the original guns were very light, it had some kick.

sometimes the package just doesn't turn out too well.

Yeah, the idea behind it was sound. A compact rifle with the punch of a long action magnum in 35cal good for any North American game. Handloaded to managable recoil sounds good to me but I was interested in the 600 not a 700. Im going to pass on it

I bought a 35 W in a classic with a short barrel, it was not kind in the recoil department. I traded it for a 6.5x55 Classic. Right now I have a Mark X in 350 RM and it is a nice shooter in its custom thumb hole stock, which seems to make the little rifle quite manageable in recoil. The rifles for the 350 seem to like the 200gr Remington bullets, so I have has pretty good luck with the 200gr RCBS FP hard cast loaded like a jacketed bullet.

i have a Remington model seven CDL with a nicely figured walnut stock in 350 rem mag. Love the rifle and I don't think the recoil is too extreme. But for hand loading the 700 is far superior to the model seven. I can only load 200-225 gr bullets because of the shortened mag well of the seven. The 700 has a standard mag well and can handle 250gr bullets with ease. I would reconsider passing on the 700 myself. Great gun.

After having a 350 mag since the early 1970 and going through the brass shortage's, I made my own , after trying 7mag & 300 mag I had the best results using 338 win mag brass.
