I have been trying to buy this truck for about a year. First a little history. A friend here had a business with a large parking lot. years ago someone parked this truck with his permission and walked away. That was 8 years ago. My friend sold his business recently and told me to park it at my house. He would contact the owner and tell them where it is. He made several calls but no reaction. Funny thing, they live less than 10 miles away. I got fed up with the whole thing and talked to a local lawyer. The lawyer sent them a letter and told them the storage fee was $10.00 per day and the bill was several hundred dollars and they could pay the bill and get the truck back. They sent the signed title instead. So the truck is legally mine for free. The lawyer didn't ask for payment either.
Now about the truck. It is a 1981 Chevy short bed step side. engine is a 305 with a 2 barrel carb and a turbo 350 tranny. Sometime in it's life time it had a Choo Choo custom job done inside and out. It has the side mount spare and a eye brow above the front windshield, wire spoke caps, plush interior, and custom paint job.
As you can imagine after sitting for more than 8 years it has some problems. Like a rust through hole in the gas tank, wood in the bed is rotted away, that 305 is going away and a .040 over 350 with throttle body injection will take its place, along with a 700r4 transmission. There is rust everywhere, but it is the model of truck I have been looking for. It's going to be a frame off restoration.
Yeah, I know you want pictures. I've tried for three days to post the picture but my computer skills are not so good.
I do know how to send a picture in an email if someone would volunteer to post it for me.

I forgot to mention I have two other work trucks. both are 1989. one is a Silverado extended cab long bed. the other is a Cheyenne 4 wheel drive long bed. the new one is going to be my play truck. Still thinking of what color to put on it.

Nice, always wanted a step side from around that time period. I'd loose the Choo Choo stuff though way out of style now.

A while ago I went out to start cleaning up the truck. Under the seat, among other items, I found two umbrellas, a two piece plastic gun rack for the back window, and a pair of men's under ware. I'm not going to fill in between the lines on that one.

My great uncle once said" If you want to get back at someone you hate; give them an old car."

Congratulations on a Great project! those old trucks are getting real hard to find up here in NY. I've got 3 of them, all are x-military. The latest is a civilian K5 that was owned by the US Air Force and came with A/C and P/w and plush velour interior and only 29,000 miles! My son gave it to me as he just wasn't getting around to it.
one of the nice things about these old trucks is the availability of parts.

Free truck is best truck.

The original paint job looks kinda nice. Would be cool to clear over it.

I hear that on the parts. I've got a old Mustang GT that is into the gap between the dealer dropping parts and the aftermarket picking it up. It's only 20 years old but luckily I can get most of the parts I need. A couple are unobtainable though. One of the unobtainable parts was just released by a aftermarket company and I bought it the very first day!

Now that is going to be a classic and a classy truck. Good story with a great beginning and I am sure a happy ending.

At least the parts are cheep for the old bow ties. Nice truck. If a truck sat around here for 8yrs it would be flatbed fed to the scrap yard lol

Might be cheaper to buy a new truck. Good luck with your project.

Ho boy, don't even get me started on free trucks!

Cost me a bundle of cash and time, and nearly cost me a good friend!

I always thought that style of truck looked good in midnight blue color.
