I am thnking about making a bulk purchase of SR4759. It is also very cheap. I tried some with 300 grain plain base cast bullets and got great accuracy. It is very bulky. Looks like a great cast bullet powder. Researching old literature shows it to be an old standard reduced load powder. Looks like I could use it in most cast bullet and reduced load applications. I have lots of data for it. I also have lots of 4896, WCC852, WCC846, WCC844, Unique, Bullseye, various shotgun powders, and a bunch of black 2F and 3F. I think I could get a lot of milage out of 4756. If I got a whole bunch of primers, which I intend to do, I would be basically set for life on reloading fodder. If I got say........24 pounds do you think I would get good use out of it? Anyone tried the surplus 4756?

I have used lots and lots of IMR4759 in the 45-70 over the years. I like 24 grains under a 400-425 grain bullet for a blackpower dup load in my Trapdoors. In the Marlin and Ruger No. 3, I like 30 grains under the 330 Gould HP.

Scott,

SR4759 works real well in anything and any where that the burn rate is applicable.

One word of caution. I had considerable temperature variance out of it going from cold to warm weather. As long as this is taken into account, it is entirely managable.

The temperature variance can be beaten by useing a crimp, which SR4759 needs to burn correctly anyway.

Chargar, those are about the same loads I use. Very good well balanced and accurate.
