My 527 dates back to when MRI in MN was the importer, and shoots well with the limited selection of .223 dia J's available loaded over LilGun. I acquired 200 225107 GC/sized .225 & lubed "boolits" for evaluation before I spring for a mold. Then I did some exploration with Red Dot & 2400 with small rifle primers. The Red Dot showed more promise than the 2400 initially, and was resampled with small pistol primers. Results were mediocre compared to the J Sierras, with no clear direction for further exploration emerging.

I still have some of the 225107s left and have seen a couple of members referencing loads in the 7 grain range for LilGun and 5 grains for 800X, but find no published info for either.

I am not focused so much on speed as good, consistent accuracy for small game hunting and informal target shooting. I have a WTB add posted to see if anyone has some 225107 PB for sale to try them to duplicate 22 rimfire loads, but have gotten no response to date.

So if you have had success with the 225107 in a similar rifle and care to share the info, I would be grateful. Also still looking for some 225107 PBs to explore. Thanks to all responders in advance!

Buy your own mould and don't count on the kindness of others indefinitely. This is the only way you'll get plainbase bullets......

Haven't tried one that light, but 1.5-2 grains of Bullseye has worked well with several different cast bullets in my Hornets for small game loads.

Thanks richhodge66! I used Red Dot because I had lots on hand.

For all I know, Red Dot may be even better. Funny thing about the Hornet, I got the results I was looking for very early and easily and stopped trying anything else. I basically have two loads; the NOE 45 grain WFN bullet with said Bullseye loads and the Lee Bator with 5.5 grains of 2400 (gas checked) both kill squirrels well and are accurate as I can shoot from field positions in the two rifles I use.

Maybe one day I'll try a "real" Hornet load, but I have a .223 that's better for that, so I can't see a reason.

Kind of my thinking too - find a good 22 rimfire + load for my hornet, and I see a .221 Fireball on my horizon for the hotter stuff.

I am having a great time trying to find the "sweet spot" for the 225107s, even if I run out of my sample boolits before I find it. I haven't decided which mold to spring for yet - this is my first foray into cast for the hornet. I have been casting for my CZ-527 in 7.62 X 39 for a few years with good success.

I was pretty surprised how easy it was to cast for .22 centerfires. Got the itch to try the .222, so now I have one. Gonna try to get her shooting next week, cast of course.
