Getting ready to make my four year purchase in honor of the upcoming election. 8# jugs of Varget do not exist.

Been looking for the above referenced powders

Powder Valley is the only one to have them in any quantity. 16 pounds each.

Any one know of another source?

Thanks for looking. Any help would be appreciated.

Try Cabela's.

There's also a powder guy on GB in Florida that's one of the busiest in the nation. I will see if I can find contact for him. Found it..

I don't know if it was a fluke or what, as it was the first time I have checked the powder shelves in over a year, but sportsmans had a big variety and stock of powder a month ago here. This included both varget and 231, not sure about 8 pounders. If you have a sportsmans in your area, it would be worth a look.

Funny the local nature of this.....I can buy Varget, and to a somewhat lesser extent 231 all day long here. A pound of Unique.....unicorn.

Heh I can find things local if you don't mind paying the markup rate ;) and buying single pounds at a time. Online price ~150ish for hp-38 8lb is well over 200+ locally and that's with them considering it a "bulk" discount. Varget is unobtainium though I haven't seen it on the shelves.

Evans BROTHERS guns in Huntington Texas has Varget on the shelf, what I didn't buy anyhow,it's$23.99 a pound I think buy 5#'s of any powder he gives you a$10.00 discount.
He also had Winchester 231 1st time in a long time.

As to the W231 try a substitute like Vectan 206-V or the more commonly known HP-38. last gunshow in NC i went to had 231 in 8lb jugs. Had Varget too so that is another avenue.

Ramshot Zip is practically identical to W231. Western powders have been in stock all throughout the shortage by me.

W231/HP-38 was the last powder o was able to find in 8# jugs. I made sure I wouldn't need to buy it again for a long time.

Varget is one of the more popular powders and hard to find at times.
I bought the one pounders from Powder Valley.
It is more expensive than the 8# jugs , but they are very hard to find.

Buy now, it will be much harder to find in five months.;)

Thanks everyone for your input and interest. I will be going with powder valley since I can get 48 lbs on one hazmat charge. Prices aren't crazy and they have it.
Thanks again.

Sounds like a great plan and a good utilization rate of that hazmat fee ;).

Precision reloading has the 1# varget and 1 or 8# Unique, also W231 in all three sizes https://www.precisionreloading.com when I hear Wolf Blitzer saying things like "worst mass shooting ever" I say bugger the hazmat fee and order! Then Gov. Brown signs some California law about background checks for ammo and only licensed sellers and I think we are all only one step away from having registration and waiver signing to purchase the cheap scratchy toilet paper... "for our own safety".

It funny like that......I don't even bother to shop around any more. When I need powder or primers or bullets (which won't be for some time) I just go on line to PV and order it....if it is stock. No muss, no fuss.
They have been consistently the best for me for many years.
Good choice!

Varget has always been hard to find here.
Almost any powder is hard to find here.
Island has been out of Bullseye for a long time.
A few weeks ago I had to get some IMR4227 for M1 Carbine.
$37.00 with my discount.
Another shop I checked had it for $42.00.

Powder Valley has great pricing, 3rd Generation is close behind but also offers a 9.00 ship fee plus hazmat.
