They must of got some annealing furnaces. Maybe this will be the last road block for them to produce bottle necked cartridge cases.

I am more interested in 300BO which is another cartridge they are going to produce. I still don't understand why 308 when cheap plentiful LC brass is available. There are lots of bottleneck cartridges that people want but can't get.

I sent them email begging them to do 30-30. This is a step in the right direction, but there is no shortage of .308 or .223 brass for that matter.

I would imagine as a company they're going for bottle neck cases that are in extremely high demand to make the venture pay off.

I understand wanting to sell quantity. But I personally can't see paying that price when LC is cheap and available. Either way it's a move in the right direction.

y'all need to remember that Star-line is still a small family run operation.
they are still small enough that an investment like this is big enough to ruin them as a company if it doesn't pay for itself fairly quickly.

I probably don't 'need' any 308 cases.
but if I can put the money together I can see myself getting 500 pieces of their brass and assigning it to one of my better rifles.

The .308 brass as described, seems like it will be an excellent choice for cast bullets. If they are doing this, I can't wait for the .30-30.

"Our .308 case is slightly thicker than most other brands towards the base, giving it slightly less case capacity. This feature will allow the reloader to reduce their load slightly and still achieve the same velocity as other brands."

I agree with most everyone else that it's a step in the right direction and I'll support them with a purchase and segregate it for my Rem 700 LTR

+1 on wanting them to do 300 BO! Love Starline brass. I wouldn't complain about them doing some 6.5 Grendel either!

Dragon, I wasn't able to find any info on them producing the 300BO on the net. Not doubting you, just wondering the source of the information? It seems a natural fit given the other small bottleneck cartridges they already produce.

The .308 sounds nice. Just load and go with my x-die and no trimming required.

I'd buy their 308 Brass over Lapua or Norma if their quality control is as good as those other two companies and on par with their pistol brass.
I know that Hornady Brass is ****! I've bought 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 Swedish brass from Hornady this year and quality control and case life is horrible. If Starline puts out 308 Win brass, I 'll be able to trim them down for my 6.5 Creedmoor rifle and have a dedicated set for that rifle.

And for everyone talking about Lake City being plentiful, they may be forgetting that the majority of the surplus LC brass you can purchase has been shot in machineguns so that leaves them open for interpretation about case stretching from being fired in a full-auto leading to shorter case life.

I honestly forget where I saw it. 308 and 300BO were going to be the first two produced from what I read. I did not call Starline to ask about this. So I may be spreading unsubstantiated rumors ;)

This may be a business move and the hand loaders get any over runs? They are but a hop skip and jump from lake city. If the make 308 and 223 they could be chasing a military contract of some sort. None the less I too support them along with Sierra,Hodgdon, bushnell and some others are a home town team for me so to speak.
To compete with lapua the better have their ducks in a row. And if any company can do it I would say it is them.

40 cents per Starline .308 case, which sounds like it might be a NATO-spec case, is a good deal. I have hundreds of dollars invested in tools to beat LC brass into submission for use in my M1A, and I suspect I might have been better off to have spent the money on Starline brass, if it had been available at the time. Here's hoping they soon give us the full range of '06 based cases, from 22-250 to 35 Whelen.

308 cases in that scenario would be the last they should start with IMHO.

Personally, I've had my fill of processing GI cases in 308 and 223. YMMV

We'll see what the final product is, but I suspect that they are aiming for the mid to high end market with custom loaders for a mass market.

Add 30/40 Krag to the wish list.

I have been emailing them about twice a year asking for them to start 444 Marlin brass. There is a market for it

Yes exactly - or rather the various bottlenecked cases which are in such limited demand that the large manufacturers have discontinued them lately. Nobody really needs another supplier of .308, but some of the others would mean a lot to some people. As they are making .38-55, for example, it should be no great trick to make better .32-40 than anyone can from .30-30.

I was going to say the same thing. My BIL has a 444 he keeps trying to trade me and I keep passing because of the price/ availability of brass.

GONRA

GONRA wants STARLINE to make 7.62x45mm Czech M52 Rifle (necked case rifle) brass.
(Essentially a 6mm longer 7.62x39 mm.)
Also 7.65mm French pistol brass. (Think of shortened rimless .32 S&W Long.)
EZ setups for Starline, but won't hold my breath on this...

I'm excited to see Starline making bottle neck rifle brass. Certainly they will extend to the 308 based cases next.

I'd personally be first in line for 300 BLK brass. I've been able to get Gemtech for reasonable
and of course making it, but it's nice to just buy some properly made, head stamped, quality brass from the get go.

I think they're off to a good start. I don't have any use for .308 but I can see the demand for quality brass for some types of comp shooting. I hope it works out well for them.

Did Winchester and Remington stop making reloading brass?
I have been out of the loop due to work. 22 Hornet and 375 Winchester would get my vote.

I asked them if they were going to do .30-40 Krag. At this time no.
I'm okay for a while, but have been asked where I got mine. Years ago is my answer.
.30-40 is a special run only. Maybe one a year.

I don't understand starting with the .308. Yes it is popular and there is some constant demand. The volumes will be high but the margins will be low. If Starline tries to hold the line at $40 a hundred they will probably not sell too many unless Winchester and Remington fold out of the brass components business.

If Remington and Winchester give up on brass I think they are committing slow motion suicide because PPU is all set to take more of their business.

They posted up a video from the NRA 2016 convention in which their rep discusses which calibers they plan on producing.

http://www.starlinebrass.com/videos/index.cfm/VideoID/33/Starline-2016-NRA-Video---Introducing-Rifle-Brass

He states that .308 is first, then .300 blackout and .223. He also mentions .358 win, .243 win, and .444 Marlin and says that ETA on these calibers is within the next year.

So Dragon813gt was right. :)

And Edster, it sounds like you are going to get your wish with the .444 Marlin.

I think both the 30-40 Krag and the 22 Hornet are out of production for handloaders from Win and Rem. I have heard they are done. As such, I think those two cartridges would be well received if Starline ever put them in the lineup.

Bear in mind there is a point at which it does not make sense to produce a product. That point may be lower with a smaller company with lower overheads. But they must still purchase tooling. If the big boys, who have already amortized their tooling, stop producing "your" brass, it may not be profitable.

It makes sense to start with .308. I do wish them luck

Starline has been producing bottle necked cases for some time. But they were produced for companies and not the general public.

But it will sure be nice to get some quality .358 Winchester Brass :)

I have 200 cases coming tomorrow. I'll let you what what I think after measuring, prep, and loading. Mines going to feed an M1A, so FMJ's only for this one. I almost regret buying them already. I purchased some German MEN (2016) ammo for barely more than the Starline cases cost, and the brass looks like excellent fodder for reloading.
