What are some of the loads you're using for the Lyman 429244, 255 grain swc gas check.

Have you used it on deer sized game? How did it perform? What alloy do you use?

I will assume here that you are using this boolit in a strong .44 magnum. I use WW alloy and 24 gr. of H-110 or WW 296. This chronographs at 1400 fps. in a 7 1/2" barrel and zips through a deer with little noticable expansion (you'll never find the fired boolit).

Yes it will be in a super redhawk and an acusport bisley.

Without expansion, does it provide quick enough kills?

I have used this bullet on whitetails out of a S+W mod.29 for several years. I've gotten very good accuracy and penetration (thru and thru) . I use 12gr AA#5 and get 1100fps from the 61/2 in bbl. I like it better than the 429421 because in my gun it's more accurate and the meplat is slightly larger. Shoot straight, T-Bird

Hey T bird, what diameter do you size the bullets at for that S&W 29?

not that particular bullet but ive used many simular ones and have taken pigs, bear and deer with them at speeds as low as 900 fps and havent lost an animal yet.

My micro marlin 94 loves this boolit sized .431 over 18.0 of 2400. No chrono datat but it feeds and will group well under 2" at 100 yards.

Define .... quick enough? Then I will tell you to hit the right spot.

As with anything, shot placement is still king. I would expect up to 100 yards from what I have seen if you just clip lungs.

Personally, I like expansion if it still exits. And if you use ACWW or softer, good chance you will get some. But you gotta know that don't ya?

Want to know for sure? Load some up and crank em into a couple of milk jugs with some wet newsprint in front of them. Use 6 or 7 jugs with some rags behind them and good chance you'll recover the bullet. Then you got a pocket piece to carry round and show folks. Just imagine the lies you can come up with that.

My 249244 fully dressed and cast of AC'd WWs weigh 270 gr. I use them over 23 gr of H110 in my 4" Anaconda and 6.5" Ruger 50th FTBH. Velocity is 1150 out of the Colt and 1300 out of the Ruger. Like Bass says; bullet placement is king. Also as he likes some expansion so do I and expanding bullets kill quicker given equal shot placement in deer/elk type animals. Since I also like expansion a 1-20 tin - lead alloy is better and weighs the same 270 grs. My opinion is based on actual results in said animals.

i use 19.5 2400
ww's 2 % tin and 10% pure, at 1550 fps this will expand some out to @ 125 yds.
it has in the last three bucks i've shot with it.
the 1550 is outta my 92. and it goes through at least one shoulder.

however your mmv......

I've cast my #429244HPs out of a soft, mixed scrap alloy that scratches easily with a thumbnail when air cooled but hardens up till it seems about as hard to scratch as air cooled wheelweights after water dropping. They weigh around 245 grains IIRC. Over 22 grains of WC820 that seems about equivalent to AA#9, they run in the 1500 FPS range out of my Super Blackhawk with minimal leading using my homemade lube. In soft, near liquid mud they expand violently, blowing off the hollowed front part and leaving a "button mushroom" of the solid base. Ought to work well on a broadside deer. Wouldn't use it where deep penetration was required.

I"ve used 20grs 2400 for 25 years, velocity is 1420fps. Taken quite a few elk and even more deer. Never recovered a bullet. Accuracy is outstanding from my 7 1/2" Redhawk.
