So either my google-fu is broken or I have been looking in all the wrong places. :p
Hopefully I will draw a doe tag in the same area where my father in law drew his bull elk tag and I want to use my 94 Winchester that was made in 1906 if my cast boolits shoot out of it good enough.
I have coww and soww lead only right now.
I am casting with the Lee 170 rnfp mould.
I am thinking velocities around 17-1800 gc'd.
Of course I am looking for the perfect combination of expansion and penetration. :-)
Is 50/50 good air cooled good or should I look at different ratios?
Thanks in advance.

I've read here that 50/50 with a little tin added, say 1 % works well.

I have used 50/50 WW/pure with a bit of tin and can say that it does expand at those velocities you mentioned, and my 30 30 shoots that boolit quite well. Within 100 yards or so it is a very efficient deer killer if you place your shots correctly. I say cast em up and go shoot!

I've seen some mighty impressive photo's of one shot deer with that 50-50 + tin alloy over in the Hunting with CB's section. The boolits are not brittle , will mushroom and do a lot of damage with good penetration. That alloy and Lee 170 FP are exactly what I now cast with and would not hesitate to use it for a hunting boolit.

Your ratio of 50/50 ww to soft is fine . If you get any issues getting the speed you want with them that soft with accuracy just water quench outa the mould . You can make the nose soft again by playing a propane torch flame over the nose till they get shiny .
