This skimmer has chrome plating and was wondering if it will contaminate the lead?

i don't think that's chrome plating, probably stainless steel.

regardless, i have one and it works just fine.

Just don't try and clean it by sticking in the turkey fryer flame, the small mesh will burn right up. :(

had some funky alloy that was mostly zinc once, had a time getting it off my gear.

I have it here in hand and is defineatly chrome/chromium plating of some sort.

i donot think the plating will be a problem, l have a strainer that is chrome plated
and have used it for 10 years or more.

I have that skimmer, I have been using it for quite awhile, no problems!

I would like to add that although it is tough, I suggest that you not get too rough with it as it may bend if overheated or if you use it to pry out clumps of stuck together clips.

You are good to go!!!

I got a stainless steel skimmer at a "Kitchen Connection" store. It's about 3 1/2" in diameter, should be perfect for removing clips. Haven't had any WWs to smelt since I got it, but hope to rectify that situation soon.

I've got a skimmer that looks to be the same as the one in your post. I've used it for skimming the clips and trash from well over 1000 lbs of wheel weights. No problems, so far. It is one of my favorite tools for smelting.

You can also get military surplus serving utensils, made of stainless steel. Mine's a serving strainer about 6 inches in diameter and has a shallow bowl with many holes in it. It works great for straining out clips, dirt & other trash. I think i paid about $6.00 for it at the local surplus store.

IIRC, this was a deuce at the local Chinamart. It's chrome plated and the plating is no issue.

And the lead the Cinese add to everything added to your bullet count!
