Well my son who's 16, myself, and our Hawken rifles are going to see if we cant put some pork in the freezer next weekend. I'm starting to get the camp stuff together now and how much you wanna bet I'll still forget something? Its getting hot so they will be holding tight to water, wallows, and shade. There's a few 300 pounders scootin around the woods where we go. That would be a great way to baptize the new barrel that just went on it. Wish us luck. Everything from the rooter to the tooter fellers :Fire::Fire:

Here is a tip I sometimes use. set up camp in your yard... and do a dry run. set up the cooking center, tent, lights and so on. I pack all my muzzle loader stuff in one big tool box. everything related to the smoke pole is in that box.......... EVERYTHING.

Thanks Bubba, hopefully one of us will pull one outta there. I'd rather see my son get one than me honestly. He's never got a hog. Not that I'd let one pass if I saw it.

Best of luck. Can't think of a better time to have with your kid. Of course, we expect a photo or two. :)

Sounds like a time. The younger pigs'll be the better eatin' of course.

For hunting I use the classic patchbox in the rifle with ram rod ends, patches, a few extra caps and a cleanout screw wrench in it. The loads are pre-packaged in quick shot tubes, so all I'm carryin' is the rifle, load tubes in a pocket and a nipple wrench for a day trip. The cleaning stuff stays home, or at camp. Although I have powder horns and a possibles bag, they stay home more and more.

Don't forget toilet paper.

Saw some descent hog sign. Tracks and a wallow. Saw a nice whitetail, 4 point just in velvet. He will be bigger in the fall, maybe a 6 or 8, but man he was pretty. His summer coat was just as red as can be. No pork though. We are going back this weekend. I'm taking my .36 cal Seneca this time. With a maxi ball and 60gr of powder it shoots almost like a 30-30. Not to mention that little girl shoots like a laser. Probably my favorite rifle, even above the custom.
