Zero experience loading light loads for my peep sighted Winchester Model 64 30-30 so it's time to ask the Castboolits folks for help.

Hoping to do 1 inch or under @ 50 with very low recoil..
First choice is the Missouri Cast Bullets 135 grainer but not written in stone.

Plenty of Bullseye, Red Dot, Trailboss and SR4759 on hand .

Thoughts ?

Thanks in advance gentlemen.

This target was shot with a gas checked SAECO # 315 at 100 yards, 5 shots, from my T/C Super 14 pistol.

I don't know why it wouldn't work well in your Model 94 Win ? ?

This load certainly qualifies for your criteria of 1" or less at 50 yards with low recoil.

I use about 3.8 grains to 4 grains of be over a 150 pb bullet and get 1 to 1.5" groups at 100 yrds

Look up mouse fart loads and you shall get quite a few.

2.5 grains of B.E. over a 150 is real slow and bounces after about 50 yrds.......but the same load over a 90 grn bullet and it hoots along.

Main thing is I have found for me at least is if you change one variable such as size, hardness, seating depth, sizing or lube or even maybe holding your tongue in a different spot then it will change the impact or velocity or grouping ability.

But once you get it right its pretty easy to duplicate.
Have fun.
I shoot probably 60 % mouse fart and reduced loads and 40% full throttle.

Have any of you used a lighter boolit that is used for a 32cal size down for a 30 cal and use that for a light load ? If so what powder did you use and what is the starter load.

It's been a long time ago, but I read a Sam Fadala (? Spelling) book titled, "Winchester '94" in which he does goes in great length about the versatility of the '94. If memory serves, he discussed at length it's use for small game. For anybody with any interest at all in the '94 it is a fantastic read. ? Amazon ? If I can find it, I'll add more to this thread.

Sized .311 " This is from a 30-06.
If I were to shoot this bullet in a 30-30, I'd start at about 5.0 grs. of B'Eye.

You'll get 752 bullets from 10 lbs. of alloy.

Don't know of the bullet you mention (135 gr.) but your normal weight 150-170 and 5-7 gr of bullseye should work well enough

Good timing on this thread as my rifle shooting needs to be limited to very low recoil due to dental/bone surgery on the right-upper side of my mouth last week. Just as I was getting my 458WM loads dialed in too. :(

I have been shooting a bunch of 311041PB's over SR4759 at around 1400fps with good results. The kids love it, but I'm thinking to get one of the pistol molds and try this route as .22's are too pricy and I have some time to kill and just won't quit shooting rifles!

What HBCan said or single 0 buckshot rolled in liquid alox and loaded over 3 grins of red dot. Seat 1/2 way in the case and very lightly crimp. Will feed through most magazines. Works best with unsized cases. Just bell charge seat and remove flare.

I have a Marlin Marauder carbine that I like to play with. I have a Lyman 66 reciever sight on it.
My squirrel load for it uses a bullet 32-098-SWC (RCBS mold) sized to .310" and bullet is cast
20:1, lead-tin a little on soft side. Works good in the 16" micro groove barrel. So it's 98gr cast
over 6.0 gr. of Unique at approx. 1200 fps. Have shot impressive groups off bench at 40yds.

He's right. But I use the Lee .311 round ball mould. Other fast handgun powders do well too. I use Tightgroup because there are so few grains floating around in that big case. Trail Boss would be great if you can find it. Gives about 1,200 fps and very accurate to 50 feet. Should be as accurate as a .32 cal Pennsylvania rife to drop squirrels out of the trees. Low pressure so your brass lasts a long time. The most expensive part is the primer and it is still far below the cost of .22lr with virtually identical performance.

Exact recipe for my thirty-thirty squirrel load! Fun x 3. Best, Thomas

My favorite light load for my 30/30 is that plain base 130 gr Lyman boolit designed for the 30 carbine. I use Trail Boss at 85% load density for an MV of 1300. It is deadly on coyotes out to 100 yards and beyond if my old eyes will focus beyond with iron sights and keeps the gong ringing at 200 yds. Since I use an RCBS Cowboy seating die, it puts an 1/8" flat spot on the point of the boolit so it is perfectly safe in the tube. Don't have a target to post and those golf balls seem to disappear when hit.
