What's a good price for a new in the box H&R single shot 444 Marlin?
Local gun store has one for $350.00.

Too much. $300 max. It will be hard to turn down $300 cash. You can also get them on gunbroker and greybeards. People are always selling them. Want a better shooter get a CVA. By the way if anything goes wrong with it your stuck. H&R is out of business. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/716008509/CVA+HUNTER+44MAG+BLUBLK didn't see any 444's but the CVA's are under three and free shipping from buds. Good luck.
I have a H&R in 243 and it's not a target rifle. The CVA that I had was very fun in 45-70. For the $$ hard to beat.

If I were looking for a .444 Handi Rifle that would be a fair price. Retailers sitting on NOS are charging less, but not for the "fun" calibers. I would make them an offer, but would pay $350 no problem. The prices are way up on the Handi Rifles, especially for the "fun" calibers. Go on Gun Broker and see what a .444 is selling for.

I just did a quick check on Gun Broker, and there were two 444s that I saw, one started at $300 and one started at $399. Not sure if they were new or what ever. Again, I would pay that price if I were looking for a 444.

Admittedly, since H&R is out of business, prices have gone crazy, but I wouldn't pay $350.00 for one. Check Graybeard Outdoors, there's devoted following of the Handis over there.

Skip it and go for the CVA.

I have a CVA in 30-06. Shoots cast and very accurate once you get used to the trigger.

skip the CVA and buy the HR. its a much better gun and has resale value as you can see.I wouldnt buy anything CVA after all the muzzleloader troubles that they have and had over the years.

Bought mine a year ago for 207$ with the camo composite stock. Pretty happy with it. Although I am not big on recoil, with light loads of Red Dot it has very good accuracy.

My first 3 shots sighting in were a cloverleaf.

I'd say for now the 300$ figure is probably fair, next year I would expect it to be between 4 and 5.

So it boils down to if you want it and how bad.

I prefer the H&R's over the CVA's. Just got back from the range with my family. We taught my 7 year old on a 357mag HandiRifle today. He killed the 10 ring from 25 and 50 yards with 125gr plated and 158gr boolits over W231 and Unique respectively. They are very nice for the money, especially in 44mag! I'd go for that 444 after offering 300.
