I have an older 9mm Makarov pistol. Does anyone have any experience with cast bullets in these? The mold I am looking at is Lee 365-95-1R. Thanks.

I shoot 'em as cast and TL'd w/straight LLA. I have a P64 and a CZ82 in 9x18 - both of them shoot the bullet well.

I shoot that boolit, in 4 bulgy Maks, un sized and tumble lubed. Works great. I bought into the Lee group buy 6 hole, and have had issues with it. I only use the 365-95-1r now

Mine cast at .365 which worked perfect for my East German make at .363, but a little small for the Russian at .3655. I'd recommend slugging your bore first.

This is a Russian. Any idea where I could get a round ball for slugging.

I don't recal which 9x18 Mak my SIL has?
It's pictured below, anyway, I cast the Lee boolit and load it unsized and TL'd with 45-45-10, in converted 9x19 brass pushed with powerpistol. The SIL says my loads, shoot the same as factory ammo

I beagle mine for best functioning in my Bulgy Mak (which slugs at about .366"). Shoots very well, I was just shooting it today, 3 grains Red Dot.
I'm also in on the group buy upcoming for the NOE/ Ranch Dog 367-95 RF.

You can make a slug of any size by drilling a hole of the proper diameter in a piece of wood and casting a slug in it. You just need to get it out, I drill the main hole, then a smaller one right through the wood. I then use a steel rod to push it back out after pouring.

If you have a mould about that size, say a .357, cast one out of pure lead, and smack the end of the casting with a hammer until it fatten up to just over .366. No need to be real precise.

Or if you like, pm me and I'll send you three in a small padded envelope for $5 via paypal.

I have the same pistol it's a Hungarian PA-63. It's not a true Mak due to the alloy frame and different lock work,it just happens to be chambered for the 9 x 18 Mak. but a nice shooting handgun none the less. I shoot the Lee bullet as well unsized and TL'ed with a variety of different powders with good accuracy an no leading.

I’ve had good luck with that boolit in my Makarov. Used powders from Scot 453 up to 540 burn rate…

The loads in the 500-600 fps sometimes “stovepiped” though…

I really don’t shoot it that much—it was just something I wanted to try and Lee molds make this possible as they are fairly inexpensive…

One other thing about that boolit, I size it down to 0.358” and have shot it from the 357 Magnum! That little rascal would sting when it hit!!!...

Good-luck…BCB

I use the Lee mold also. I shoot mine as cast, tumble lubed two times with 45-45-10. My nephew and I both have Bulgarian Mak's, have used my ammo in both. We have never had a jam of any sort or any leading. I have used once fired Mak brass, brass converted from 9mm luger and starline. So far the two Makarov's in my family have been 100 percent reliable.
I've never slugged the barrel, just tried them as cast and it worked, so will not bother with slugging. My boolits measure from .365 to .366 and weigh 99 grains.

I use that bullet in an RK-59, a P-64 and P-83, tumble lubed with straight LLA and it works great. 3.5 gr W231 with COAL = .980. I'm also on the list at NOE for a ranch dog version.
