Okay this thread is for the fat twist old girls to get a chance to show and shine.

This old girl is the first named Hot Rod. She is a 1-28 twist 50 cal it started out using the Hornady 410 gr bullet. After the demise of that bullet I started to shoot the paper patched lee 500 S&W bullet in all my 50's.

In Chronological order this is Hot Rod #2 a 1-18 twist .458.

This Hot Rod is the first one to actually use the paper patched bullets. It was the rifle I had the most success with. I gave it to my son. It is a 50 cal with the 1-28 twist.

This is the last in order. This one is probably my favorite rifle to shoot. I built this rifle to be an antelope rifle. It is the most amazing ML I have ever shot. it is a 1-30 twist 45. With a paper patched 409 gr 11mm RCBS rifle bullet is has plenty of horse power for hunting.

All the rifles are using the Lyman 57 SML peeps. The .458 uses a Lee Shavers Globe with a level. The rest use a Lyman 17 aml globe sights with Lee shavers inserts.

Nice looking rifles.

But, what did they start out as and where did you get the barrels???

My goal is to build a fast twist muzzle loader in .45, much like the last one of yours.

PS what do you use for nipples/caps

the first three started life as T/C Renegades, the fourth a 54cal T/C Hawken.

i believe Ron used Green Mountain barrels on most of them.

Nice looking bunch there! I never did understand the theory and purpose of those western laws. But I know better than to try and make sense of a melding of legal and political minds.

on their website Pecatonica River shows to have a few of the T-C/GM drop-in barrels available to fit the 1 inch stocks. they show .45cal in percussion & .50cal in flint. other than that, auction sites or sites like here are about what's left for yer options to find one.

The top rifle is my new .50 Cal Hotrod, and the bottom is my .45 Hotrod. Both rifles are set up identical, Lyman 57SML peeps and Lyman 17AHB globes with Lee shaver inserts. I am waiting on the custom bullet sizing die for the .50 Cal, I plan to shoot the S&W 500 440 grain bullet in it, I have some made up and ready for the sizing die. I am shooting the RCBS 11MM rifle bullet paper patched in the .45 and it shoots REALLY good! I will be paper patching the S&W 500 440 bullet as well. Idahoron is the inspiration for these rifle builds. Thank you Ron!
