Some of you may recall I turned 50 back in February. I posted that I got myself a Remington 572 .22 pump as a gift. Why? Well, I love 870s (I have all 5 gauges) as well as a 760 .30-06 pump. Seemed like I just needed one.

Well, I decided a .22 pump wasn't quite enough for half a century, so this week I got this

Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon 20 gauge, 30 inch tubes. I think I got quite lucky with the wood, as this is just a basic field gun. I love 20s, I felt I was old enough for a pretty one!

Patrick, excellent choice. That 686 will serve you long and well. I've got a couple three four my self. A 20/28 two barrel set, a 12/20 two barrel set, a 28 inch 28ga, and a 32 inch 12ga. Though I did have the 12/20 rebuilt when I got the 20ga barrel set fitted. Didn't really need it but it was getting close after about twenty years of a couple hundred targets a week, almost every week. I had Cole Gun in Maine do the work. Barrel fitting and rebuild was under $200 if I remember correctly, included shipping. They fit me well and smack targets and birds with real authority. The 32 inch gun uses the factory extended Optima chokes which I really like. The other guns are all Beretta Mobile chokes which I'm not so fond of. I have switched them all over to extended Rhino Chokes.

Good luck and enjoy.
