In a recent thread (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?305613-Lyman-358430-in-38-Special-and-357-Magnum-Favorite-Loads) on the Lyman 358430, gwpercle casually mentioned the Lyman 358432 as a good bullet. Having several different wadcutter molds ranging from 140-155grain, I was not in a hurry to try another. Well, I happened to find one of these 358432 molds on the cheap and couldn't resist. So I am looking for loads that forum members have had success with in .38 special and .357 magnum. Thanks.

I use the 358432 in my 38 special a lot. I like the fact that when crimped in the crimp groove it has no more boolit inside the case than a 358477 and weighs about the same from my mold(150 grains).
I use near full power data from the 358477 or 358311 to load it and have had excellent results(5.0 of CFE pistol or 3.5 of Bulleye or Titegroup). It also shoots quite well at standard wadcutter loads(3.0 grains of Bulleye or Titegroup).

One needs read no further, my only complaint is that mine is a sc mold.

I won the lottery with mine. I have a 4 cavity that drops right at .358. I don't even have to size them if I choose not to. Mostly I just tumble lube them.

Tazman, mine is a 2 cav. I have yet to cast with it, but I'm hoping that it casts slightly larger. I need .359 for my LCR, although .358 would be perfect for my Blackhawk.

I also have a 4C 358432 that I was gifted approx. 25 years ago and 3.5 gr of Bullseye has been my load since. This has been the standard for my pair of 1920's S&W hand ejectors but it really shines in my M65 and M66. My understanding is Lyman produced this mold in 148gr and in 160gr versions - mine is the 148 and all cavities drop between .3585 and .359. You've got a great wadcutter there....

Sorry Thomas I been to Texas ,
My favorite loads are in 38 special with that Lyman 358432 boolit in the 160 grain weight are as follows:
4.0 grains Bullseye
4.2 grains Red Dot
4.6 grains Unique
These are not light target loads or +P loads but standard velocity 800 to 825 loads a grain or two below Lyman data maximum. Get good accuracy at this level. Being close to 158 grains it shoots to point of aim in my fixed sighted S&W model 64.

I discovered NOE had recreated this mould and had a 3 cavity in stock, before I could stop myself I had ordered one to replace the single cavity Lyman I had gotten off ebay.
I can turn out a pile of them in short order now.... That bullet became a favorite in my 38's real fast !

I have two of those (a Lachmiller 148 grain and an Ideal 358432 , both DC.) and have been using them for over 35 years. For the lighter boolit I use any data for the 358-477 and for the heavier boolit, I use any data for the 358-311. The only coyote I ever shot with a hand gun was killed by one of these over 4.0 grains of Red Dot from a slicked up Python I used to have. Said coyote was DRT at about 35 yards from a single DA shot from behind while running away from me. The boolit had entered just to the left of his anus and traveled through him to exit just above the breast bone.

That is some impressive penetration. How large was the wound channel?

Gary, thanks for chiming in. I appreciate it. I've been using 5 grains of Unique under the RCBS clone of Lyman 358156 and the RCBS 38-158-CM -- an RNFP. These have proven to be the most accurate loads in my guns. Since the Lyman 358432 sits no deeper than either of those bullets, I figure I might be able to get away with trying such a load. The Red Dot load data will be very helpful. I've got 2 lbs of it and like it very much for .38 and .44 special cartridges.

Gwpercle, both the Bullseye and Red Dot loads you list are considered Plus P. Older data is considered out of date in that regard.

I had a gut feeling that boolit would be a good game getter. Looks like it will do the job !

The coyote was relatively small, but the bullet penetrated about 18 inches without hitting bone. The wound channel was not huge, in fact, it was pretty much just a hole with some tearing and pulping of the intestines and a nickle sized exit wound. I did not do an extensive autopsy due to the stench of his perforated bowels. I had the hide for while, but it disappeared about the time I re-married.

I use the 358432 in my 6 inch S&W 28 and 2.5 inch S&W 19 with 13.0 of 2400. Mold drops .358 and 160 grains using COWW. Both guns give great results and really do a number on vermin. Wood chucks just simply wilt-lights out. Soon I am going to give it a try in my two S&W 14 guns with light charges of Bullseye which at present thrive on the Lee 125 RNFP and 6.0 of CFE Pistol.

Had mine since the early sixties. Works great with 2.7 to 3.0 of Bullseye, Clays, and several other fast powders. I used to heat it up a little but have better bullets for speed. Actually got a couple of sub 2" five shot groups with it from my 3" SP101 and they were POA at 25 yards.
