For some reason a while ago I tried reloading with the hornady leverevolution cases, but I stopped and put them away. I don't remember why, but looking in the lyman catalogue, a small note says the dies are not for those cases. why might I have stopped using them? whats different about them? it would be nice to be able to use all those extra cases. one thought I might have is that the lee factory crimp die didn't work on them, I know I don't need it to crimp, I can do that with the seating die, but I only seat my bullets, and then use the LFCD to crimp them down. thank you all, Travis

The cases are slightly shorter than other companies brass......at least in 35 Rem.

Theyre too short and were designed specifically for the FTX bullets......at least in the 45/70

so is there any way to use them? hey brassmag

The 45-70 is 0.010 short. But the Lee dies work on them. Just keep them separate and adjust the crimp die accordingly.

ok farmerjim, hey yesterday I was wondering how much land way out in the swamp costs? even if I had to live on a houseboat??

As far as I'm aware the 35 Remington cases are the only one that are standard?, all the others are short.

I dunno about the 35 rem.
but the 44 mag, 45-70, and 30-30 are shorter.

If they use the FTX bullets the cases are shorter. Those stupid bullets have ruined many cases for reloading. 444 Marlin brass comes in both standard and short. It's dependent on if the FTX bullet is used.

that's really weird, its like they do it just to make things complicated for us! at least stretching wont be a problem for a while, lol , Travis

Way back, in the 60's. A bunch of us guys built a houseboat floating on 55 gal drums. We mainly kept it in a small channel off the main river at Bayou Pigeon in the Atchafalaya Swamp It didn't cost anything. I don't know if you can do that now.

357 HORNADY FTX are shorter too somewhere between 38 special and 357 mag length, I've got a gaggle of them I'm going to use to load up 200 grain 357 mags and hope to have them feed in my 77/357

What I do is sort them out, and if I'm using the single stage, and just do them as the last cases in the lot. All of my Horniday cases are for pistol, and I do pistol on various presses so readjusting the dies isn't a problem for me.

Sweet! now I can load an extra 40 or so 45-70 loads!, do you think that a 45-70 case could be cut just short enough to hold the powder and boolit, to have more capacity in a tube magazine? I cant think of a reason why it wouldn't work, just like shooting 38's out of a carbine made for 357's

might not be as accurate with a jump to the lands. you can always experiment with a few before cutting down a bunch of them

The .45 Colt FTX brass is short too. I never have been a Hornady fan, this is just one more reason.

Just dug out a bag of range brass that I've had for a couple of years now, before the Hornady component brass was available so I presume it's "Leverevolution", the 35 Rem Hornady brass measures within .0005" of the Remington brass in the same bag.

Gee...never heard of the leverevolution cases...just the powder... are the cases made for the powder? Pair them up?

I bought 4 lbs of the powder for my ole 30-30's but have not charged anything with this powder. It used to show about a 100 or 200 FPS
increase over other powders at reasonable pressures... Guess I need to go reread about the powder yea?

I went to reload some 3030 last night and wanted to use Levervolution powder. After finding some recipes they were too hot for Missouri 165 grn lead bullets. Velocity listed were around or over 2000 ft/sec. I was looking for around 1500 ft/sec. In a older Winchester 1894 I really do not want to shot anything that hot to punch holes in paper.

My buddy shoots nothing but the 185 gr hornady XTP .44 mag factory stuff. He saves the brass for me. It is indeed shorter than regular .44 mag brass. I just have an extra .44 mag seating/crimping dies set up for this brass. It would be a pain in the butt to do it just for a couple odd-ball range pick up cases though.
