Hi.

Isīt anyone who cast boolits for .45 WinMag? I just bought a AMT Automag in .45 Win Mag and looking for a mold for it.
I sent a mail to Miha and he had some 454-640 molds in the shelf but it casts 251gr with large hp pins and it feels heavy.

The factory loads were 230 grain and I'm thinking the Automag may be very ammo sensitive as to feeding. I know the 9MM Win Mag Automag was

I'd actually describe the AM IV as a very reliable feeding handgun, not finicky at all.
I had one for years and fed it everything from 230gr RN to 250-260gr Keith SWCs (taper-crimped to the front of the first driving band). The gun was extremely accurate when fed heavy doses of slow burning powders like H110, W296, and AA#9...Although it didn't shoot as well with Blue-Dot's flake-type design.
The pistol is built like a tank (too heavy, maybe). It also had what was probably the very best trigger ever supplied on a factory auto up to that time.
The only complaint I had was with the grip design. My hands are too large for the AM IV's gripframe, and I could never get comfortable with it... That is the only reason I don't still own it.

As far as mould recommendations... anything feasible for 45ACP, plus most things 45 Colt.
I mostly used a 255 truncated cone that Walt cut for me, back when NEI was on the top of their game.
I just went to NOE's site and would feel comfortable with several of Al's offerings, although I'd personally stay 230gr +.
The 453-230-RN, 454-230 RF, and 454-255 RF would be worth looking at. I'd probably lean towards to 454-265 WFN if I really wanted a beast-slayer.
I would not hesitate to try a Keith-style SWC, like the 454-255 SWC, remembering to taper crimp at the top of the front driving band.
I think you'll find the AMT to be a great gun, as long as the grip doesn't bother you.
Good luck.

BTW... NOE has the 454-265 WFN on sale this week... It's worth checking out. :)

GONRA's .45 Win Mag caliber AMT Automag IV and L.A.R. Grizzly pistols shoot great
with new Starline brass, 230 grain .451 diameter Hornady 431592 FMJ plated bullets,
1.575 OAL, 18.0 grains Blue Dot powder, Winchester Large Pistol (WLP) primers.
Seating with the .45 ACP Hornady sliding sleeve die.
AMT trigger pull is really light. Be careful who you allow to shoot these!

Good information although I will be shooting .45 Win Mag in a Freedom Arms 83. I won't go into how I ended up with a 45WM cylinder. I especially appreciate that I can use both .45ACP & .45 Colt boolits.

I ordered a Mimek 454 mold today, it's a nose poured 454-250 tc.

That bullet looked good, I will powdercoat the bullets so I wonder if Iīll need gaschek.

There was a Winchester factory loading with a 230 gr. FMJ, and also one with a 260 gr. JHP. My AMT shoots the 260 gr. very well, and they expand beautifully.

I don't think powder coating is a substitute for a gas check. For full power loads I would use a gas check.
