Two weeks ago the Governor of of Nevada gave everybody a tax refund. The personal property tax portion of our automobile registration was returned to us, my refund was $259, depends on how much your registration cost. People with a Driver's License but no car got $75, and people with a State Identification Card also got $75. You think he might remind us of that come election time??? Next week he takes some of it back. Heretofore, if you had a CCW, you could avoid the $25 Brady Bill charge when you bought a gun. Starting Sunday that is changed; You must pay the $25 Brady Bill charge everytime you buy one. That is going to P.O. a lot of people, it's going to hurt sales for the dealers. Previously when I bought a gun on the internet, it cost me anywhere from $0 to $20 at the dealers, depending on what the lady felt like charging me that day. Now I must add $25 to that cost. (Still cheaper than California) That will cause me to say 'no' to some deals I would have taken before. Oh well, could be worse.

The state charges $25 to call the FBI to check the National Computer to see if you're allowed to buy a gun. Most states have it set up for the dealer to call the FBI directly. I don't think there is a charge. But Nevada set themselves up as a middleman and charges for it.

In Oregon we have the "Instant Check" so called. It's run by the State Police as I recall. The cost is $9 to the caller(dealer) and is of course added to the firearm cost.

That's the way it is done here, Nevada is just charging more money. In both cases it is the FBI both states check with.

That is exactly what I thought it was....it's a free call to the FBI center in northern West Virginia. The operator doesn't even ask who you are. You get this monotone response..."applicants social"...you give it and she says, 'one moment please'....the only reply I have ever gotten is: 'proceed with the transfer'. Then she gives you a number to record on the yellow form. That's it.
