Mine is the Rossi M92 carbine in 45 Colt. This is the 1st Rossi I ever bought and am very happy with my purchase. Got it for $459.00 on GB and with shipping and FFL fee I came in a tick under $500.00

I was pleasantly surprised with this guns overall fit and finish, being more than I expected for a sub $500.00 lever gun.

For some reason I've been buying shotguns lately. A pigeon grade Winchester Model 23 side by side in 12 gauge (circa 1982) for pheasant hunting was the last purchase.

Garage sale last Thursday. Guy had several big mixing bowls full of old 12 & 10 ga. paper shells. 1950's-60's vintage. Lots of other rifle and pistol ammo also. I bought 2 full boxes of .32 ACP's for $5.00. Asked if he had any guns for sale. He said just one. A Browning Safari (Finland,Sako) in 22-250. Pencil barrel profile in 97%+ condition, with B&L Balvar 8R scope and Weaver mounts. Gorgeous stock and deep blue steel. He said he had only fired about 10 rounds through it since he bought it new in 1971. And it looks it. He wouldn't come down on the price any, so I paid him the $500.00 he wanted and it came home with me. Hope I didn't ripped off too badly, but I just couldn't resist. He also threw in a full box of shells and a nice soft case. I love garage sales.

I wound up getting a Kel-Tec P32 recently. I thought it was fascinating as it only weighs about 6 ounces empty. About 10 ounces loaded. Plus it is so small. Very easy to carry it someplace concealed. It ought to be handy here in the hot summers because of that.

bought a Bergara made 30-06 just a couple of day's ago.
the ones before that was a Para in 45 ACP and a Para Recon in 9mm.

my next rifle will be another Bergara in either 308 or 6.5 Creedmore.
my home swaged bullets are shooting under an inch easily in the 0-6.
here are 3 separate groups and yes that is a flyer someone lifted their head.

I once had a Colt Lightning in .44/40 . It was perfect.
I remember I killed a doe with it off hand and 80 yds with a RCBS 200 gr cast bullet and a maximum change of Unique.

Wish I had been able to keep that rifle, but back then I bought, sold and swapped about everything.
That way I could experience as many guns as possible.

I loved the Lightning because I grew up shooting a Winchester Modle 62 .22LR
It all felt natural to me.

I still own the old 62,and it was my favorite squirrel rifle.
Now I am old and optically challenged ,so I use a Win Model 52 with a scope.

Last 4 of mine have all been Hipoint guns. Started with a .40sw carbine, slipped a 70$ red dot sight on it and wow, that was fun. But the wife wanted one that did not "bump my shoulder" so much. So enter Hipoint #2 in 9mm. So at the range sighting in the red dot on that one, the RSO asked if I liked them. I was honest, yes they are ugly as sin, but they seem to be very dependable. And at reasonably close ranges it will take the center right out of a bullseye.

So the RSO says I have one, but never took to it, it is a 9mm, you interested?

I told him straight up it would depend on price. Only had 200$ into the first 2, and I would not likely go above that. "You'd be interested at 200$" Yes, very much so. So enter in Hipoint #3.

So that is 3 pistol caliber carbines.

And they all shoot, dependable as you could ask for.

So a couple months back walked into my local pawn shop and he had a Hipoint 9mm pistol, for under 200$.
So when I got him down to 125 I said ok, I'll take it. Again, ugly, but solid, functional. Likes Jacketed bullets. So I will shortly try some bigger .357 boolits shoehorned into a 9mm and see if we can work something out that it likes.

Leading was not a problem but it was keyholing at 20 feet. And it tended to shoot large patterns not tight groups. So I try a box of Federal Jacketed, keyholing stopped, and the groups shrunk by 2/3'rds.

No new guns since then, but encore bbls in 300 Win Mag, 7mm Rem, PM if you want it, contender bbls showed up in some order in 22 hornet, 7-30 waters and 357. Off topic but I have assembled 3 AR's. 2 in 5.56, 1 in 6.8
One has Surplus Arms & ammo lower with BCM upper. Lower and upper finish matches perfectly.
One has Bushmaster lower with Palmetto upper. Lower and upper finish matches perfectly.
One has Spikes lower and upper. Lower and upper finish does not match. The finish on the lower is noticeably lighter than the upper. Go figure.

My latest was a .357 Ruger Blackhawk with a 4-5/8" barrel. I've wanted one of these since I was a kid. Remember the old Ruger ad showing a mountain lion in a tree and a hand cocking a Ruger .357 Blackhawk? Ever since I saw that ad I wanted one. Too bad I waited until I was 63 years old until I got one!

Chev. Williams how did think about rebarreling and rechambering it to .25? Anything shortage related? The end product is cool to the bone!

What my revolver Project took;
1. Used Ruger .22 Cal. Single Six to use as a donor revolver (mine was found at "American gun Works" in Glendale, CA).

2. Replacement 8 shot .22-MAG cylinder(s) (i Bought mine from "gunpartscorp.com).
3. replacement ruger "Hand" to be fitted to time the 8 shot cylinder. ('gunpartscorp.com' again).

4. Lothar Walther .25ACP/6.35 Browning Cr-Mo Alloy steel Pistol barrel Blank ( can take around 5 weeks to get).

5. Gunsmith that you trust. my choice is Willie Clark at "American Gun Works".

6. Supply of cartridges. This depends upon what you desire. My '6.35 series' cases are all home made from 5.7x28mm parents; my '.250 series' are made from .22 Hornet parents.
All require Tooling (dies, punches, presses, drill bits, etc.) to make. I use mostly Lee .25ACP Carbide ring Sizing dies, which are reasonable on a "retired budget".

7. Bullets are more of a 'problem except for two generally available ones the 35 gran hollow point and the 50 grain FMJ-RN ones. Lead Bullets are more difficult to find commercially but you can down size .257" bullets to fit.

8. Powders are as published for .25ACP, for starting loads, and personal development from there.

Perhaps you could start with a CF Ruger 'convertible' but then you will need to find cylinders to fit.
I was Lucky in my Used Find as it was within my range for purchase at the time (I am retired and must watch my Budget carefully).

Best Regards,
Chev. William

Chev. Williams, thanks for the explanation. It's a very cool idea, but unfortunately where I live (brazil) it can't happen, beginning with the lack of competent gunsmiths to other miseries... However it's a beautiful gun and a one-of-a-kind too. What about digging a nice little mold for it? It certainly deserves it. Shouldn't be too expensive either. Congratulations again!

***Update from my 1st post.*** Just bought a blued (black) 6.5" Taurus Raging Bull from GB in 454 Casull. She's used but not much. Comes with holster also. I expect to take receipt sometime next week.
I will be shooting 45 Colt through it 95% of the time but I intend to get some 454 cases and jacketed bullets just to try some 454 loads. Since it is fairly heavy and ported it should be a real pussycat to shoot with my 45 Colt handloads.

I picked up a new s&w model 69 recently. I kind of avoid new s&w products because of the lock and reports of fit/finish. Must say I love this revolver. .44 mag in an L-frame...literally something I have been dreaming about for years. Not as well finished as some of the older s&w revolvers...but pretty darn good for a new gun that retails around $700. Only downside is the 4.25" barrel won't fit in many holsters, so I have to use a 5" Hunter brand. Sights are traditional red front and white outlined black rear adjustable.

Shoots great, and is very controllable even in .44 mag. .44spl shoots great as well of course, and is easy on the hand. I sent some 300gr WFN boolits down range (upper end of .44 mag, well below Ruger only loads), but most of what I have shot have been target variety wc/swc at .44spl velocity in the 230-250 grain range. The 69 is more accurate than I am. Used it to trim a bunch of small maple trees that have popped up all over the property.

Overall I am very happy with the new gun. I have over 700 round down range without a hitch. Double action trigger isn't great, but is getting better every round. Single action I am clipping 1-1.5" maple saplings pretty consistently at 10-20 yards fairly consistently. Can't wait until I actually start casting/loading for it specifically...everything I've shot through it so far I'd loaded for other .44's.

Last purchase was a Type 56 (Chinese SKS) with an aftermarket folding/collapsible stock and a scope. A bit of filing on the stock where the magazine hinges into place allows use of detachable magazines (switching back to the non-detachable magazine requires a bit of disassembly).

The engraved and colored holster is in the picture. It is a Ruger Combat Commander that is just a bit altered, Novak adjustable sights, match barrel w fitted bushing, fitted trigger with a hammer and sear job, ambi safety, S&A mag well, Safari extended grip safety, fitted mags serial numbered to gun. It shoots cast 200 H@Gs into 1 inch at 25.

Yesterday picked up two from my local dealer that I purchased on gunbrokers. First was a used Ruger #1 in 30-06. Very nice rifle with nice wood and complete with a Leupold 2.5x8 VX3, superb trigger. This is my first #1 ever.
The second was a NIB S&W 617 10 shot with a 4 inch barrel.

I don't care for bolt's like that or fluted barrel's but, that is still a really nice looking rifle!

last gun I bought was a S&W MP Shield compact in 9mm. Got it strictly for a carry gun and for that it's really nice! Gun before that was about 10 or 12 years ago. Win mod 70 Featherweight in 6.5x55 with a Redfield/Leupold 2x7 scope.

I'm not keen on the flutes either, they say weight saving, but are so shallow they wouldn't have saved more than a half ounce or so. I'd like to turn them off, but would probably be affecting the strength.

The shields are a great gun.

A week ago walked into my local pawn shop to find 2 new lever guns. Both Win 94, one pre 64 was marked 850$ and one post 64 with the button safety through the receiver marked 500$

Well I waited till the manager was free and told him to give me his best deal. Which turned out to be 425$ which I just happened to have in cash in my pocket. So I put the taxes on my card, filled out the paper work, and took it home.

Tonight I went back and the pre-64 (44 built he thought) was down to 650$. Since I was still pretty cleaned out from last week I put 200$ down and put it on lay away. He knocked off the 48$ in tax and I think we are both happy.

Wood is perhaps not quite as nice but the action is silk and the gun looks great. No major dings or scrapes just age faded and worn blueing which suits me fine.

That will probably be my last for a few months.

Pair of Winchester 94's showed up at my local pawn shop. One post 64 94AE with no wear, very nice wood, I would say 99% of new condition, 425$ was the final figure. I can not really tell that it was fired more than once or twice with the bore scope.

The other is a pre 64 built in WWII era, again in very nice condition. Wood was dry, looked lighter but a good oiling with a soft cloth has it looking good again. 625$ and he threw in the taxes. So I put it on layaway and went back for it a week later.

In all pictures the Post 64 is on top with the button safety in receiver near hammer.
Collectors may scorn it but it really does not bother me. I leave it on fire unless I want to empty the mag. Nice knowing I won't trigger one accidentally.

A 1976 made Winchester 94 in 30/30 with a Williams FP sight. I swapped a H&R Shikari in 44Mag for it, the young guy fell in love with the Shikari after I gave him a shot. It was a bit of an uneven swap (he was happy with it though) so I threw in a couple hundred reloads and a Bore Snake with it. \

Now that's a rifle with character, FFoD! I like it. I like the Williams sight as well, a few of my later 94's wear them. Butt stock looks a little odd. A bit more figure than normal and a white spacer to boot. I suspect there's a story behind that.

Four Fingers of Death
06-23-2016, 11:55 PM
I think the original owner refinished the stock when he installed the diamond. The white line spacer was added at the same time probably. It had since expanded a tad. I'm not sure what to do with that, but knowing me, the white line spacer will still be there when my heirs clear out my safe after I've ridden on ahead

Anyone who doesn't like an 1886 Winchester must not like lever rifles period. As big a pain as mine in 40-82 was to get shooting 25 years ago it ain't for sale or trade.

Last rifle bought was a Jeffrey Rook rifle that had been re-chambered to 25-20 WCF. It's in the hospital at the moment undergoing major surgery, a new liner in the same cartridge. A full recovery is expected and it should come home next week.

Well, once again I should learn to leave my auction finger well enough alone. Put in a low bid on a Marlin 44Mag & got it. Didn't really want or need it. Guess I'll scope it & see what it will do.

Did low ball a NIB S&W 66 & got it $105 under wholesale, might have already mentioned that ???.

Anyway, one of my gunsmiths called (he does my LR & BR guns) & asked what the heck do I want to do with the new Rem 700 SA receiver I had sent to him about 4 months ago? huh, was my brilliant reply. Couldn't remember what I got it for, so we discussed it & I had a nice semi heavy 24" 308 brl (4.4#s) & a basiks trigger (the receiver has one of the "good" Remington triggers so will try it first), & took it over to him. He had a nice used McMillan stock that fit perfect. Put it all together & it went together nice. A little tight on headspace so need to run the match reamer in it & try it out. Probably Mon or Tues.

Have several other toys being made with a couple that should be done shortly; 338-06, 308 LR 14 twist & a 280.

You are in good company...this is how I ended up with 500lbs of lead from ebay and the latest items from gunbroker. I see the starting bid and figure "dang that's low someone else will surely bid on the item"....sure enough I still with 95% of them and had to explain to my wife where the fun budget went for the month. I keep telling myself to block gunbroker from my list of websites but then I see another shiny model 10 and can't help myself. At least I console myself with the fact they don't really go down in value and I could always resell them if I choose.

My current day marlin bolt action 22lr *still* won't reliably extract cases on its own despite being sent back. My glenfield 70s model fires like a champ with no issues. I've come to believe the remlin stories are accurate and I will shy away from current production models.

I'm considering selling or trading it before I scope or fire it. Just don't know. Have the Rossi 44 so....

I hear the Marlins don't shoot heavy bullets well because of the twist so going to ask the guys on the lever thread the scoop on the new Marlin twist. But that may not really matter as I like the 245-250s in my 29-629s. Only shoot the bigger bullets in the SRH.

LMAO it was the poor USPS lady they were all in MFRB ins 30lb increments. I was a bit tipsy and got bid happy on ~ 20 auctions a piece assuming I would lose half of them. The first day she showed up with 3 boxes and grumbled as she dropped them at the door, I luckily caught her and warned her of the impending storm. Every day after that she was all smiles since I would be waiting at the door when she honked the horn and unloaded everything myself. It pays to be nice to the service industry folks if you see them all the time.

UPS can eat a **** IMHO, I never see the same driver twice, no consistent policy as to when they want me to sign or not, sometimes the packages are in great shape sometimes partially destroyed. It is the default option for amazon and other websites I frequent so I get packages a lot during the week. As my last position was a remote tech job I am just used to having packages/parts delivered at all parts of the day and switching from the "enterprise" folks back to "commerical/residential" was a slap in the face. Considering the extra fee's I pay and hazmat ETC you would think there would be a bit more care involved with a package that could detonate. Still awaiting the box of 10k primers that "walked off" the truck.

I bought a Marlin 336 SC on Gunbroker and the seller was Gander Mountain. It made it a easy transaction since they sent the rifle to a GM store that is only 15 mins. from my home and no transfer fee.
While I was there at the store I looked at the few used guns they had and what do I find ?
A Savage M 720 semiauto shotgun for $99.99 ! The only thing wrong with it is a really poorly fitted recoil pad and a small crack in the forend.
After looking it over good I said , I'll take this too ! They gave me a 30 day return option on both guns if I found anything I didn't like or if either didn't function properly. I couldn't beat that !
I needed the shotgun like a hole in the head.... but a gun with no stamped parts that's essentially a hump back Browning in nice shape for $ 100, I would have bought a dozen of them if they had them.
Every now and then I get lucky !

my last gun, which came by the way, is a ruger super blackhawk with a 4 5/8" barrel in 44 mag. it has a nice rosewood grip and it is blued. i did shoot 10 44 mag rounds out of her, but i think i'm going to go with the 44 sp. with 250gr mihek hp and a load of unique. i've loaded up some 44 sp that are 220gr wc and 6.5gr of unique, it will help me using a "new" type of grip( this is my first sbh ever) and the trigger(which is very nice).
i wanted stainless steel for it but a blued one was available, so i took it. ss vs blued don't really bother me, so i am glad to have it. it balances nice, unlike my old ruger srh with a 7.5" barrel did. oh, i have had a stroke and the right half of my body is no good, but the left half is alllrrrrriiiigggggtttttt!:bigsmyl2:

the old 44 mag, i had a hard time holding it still with a 7.5" barrel. but with a 4 5/8" barrel with a single action is best for me.

Somehow, I accumulated over $1100 in the gun fund. So, I ordered a Savage 112 BA Target Action (single shot) laminated stock 338 LAPUA Magnum ten days ago, It showed up on Wednesday, and brown did not run over it with a fork lift or do other damage. My local guy is a real fine person. If I pay up front, he will get me anything for total shipped cost plus Twenty-five dollars. Out the door, $954.14. He had another customer interested, but wanted to actually see one first. I told my guy he could call this guy when he called me. Guy spent about five minutes fondling it, wiped all of the drool off, and ordered one himself.

Good deal for all concerned, I would say.

I bought this 71/84 Mauser off the Cast Boolits selling site a couple of months ago. Promptly went out and raised the CBA Big Bore Military 40 round standing national record.

Finally succumbed and purchased a Glock 19. Have not shot it yet, but for being a utilitarian firearm I am impressed with it.

Oh my gosh- that rifle is ugly and shoots poorly. I'll pay the shipping if you want to get the smelly thing out of your house- i'll keep it in the barn! Best, Thomas.

How do you like that gun. Can it handle hot loads? I have been thinking about getting one.

Last rifle I bought was a 308 Zavasta M70 rifle that Academy Sports and Outdoors had on clearance for a darn nice price. Recall Academy had the Zavasta M70s at $479 when they first stocked it.....then price was $459 for awhile....then put it on clearance for $349 and I bought one. Shot around 100 reloads thru it and decided it's accuracy was OK for hunting, but left something to be desired when shooting benchrest. So, when a shooting buddy offered me a decent brand heavy barrel in 308 already threaded for a Zavasta M70 action with only a couple of hundred rounds down it for free, I had it installed and re-chambered to a Palma 308. Lucky me, installation of barrel and re-chamber cost me nothing. Let's just say, my clearance priced Zavasta now shoots quite well when it comes to accuracy.

Just ordered a 45ACP Remington R1 for Wild Bunch Traditional shooting. I was tempted to buy a Series70 Colt, but at $750 odd dollars extra, it didn't make the cut, much as I love my Colts. I'll post a pic when I get it.

Brought home a nice old H&R single shot 12 gauge 3" with Mod choke, case hardened reciever, barrel in very good shape, no rust, and the blondest stock set I've ever seen on a H&R single.

I am thinking this one may get sent to make a stub job, .45lc or .44mag I think. Although .45 acp would also be fun.

Total cost 107.50$

Barrel also fits well on existing rifle frame for a nice combo unit. It could be .300BO, .223 or 9mm plus the shotgun barrel.

A glock G30S. I already got rid of it, I like my G19 much better. The G30S is too fat and heavy for me to carry.

Does having Bartlein fit a new barrel in 6.5-284 to my OM 70 Target Model count?

If not, I bought a Savage 112BA single shot 338 Lapua Magnum last month. With the Murphy Precision 25 moa rail I can reach past 1800yds.

Last year I bought a nice 11-87 premier 12ga from a guy at work for $300. It has the 28" light contour barrel, and shoot like a dream! Before that I bought a savage 720 from a local pawnshop for $110, the only thing wrong with it was the bolt return spring was jacked up, so I got one from numrichs, and it shots great. Next thing on the list is a ruger 10-22 charger, I shouldn't have shot that one at the range last weekend!

I got 2 Ruger American rifles in .243 & 30/06 for $199.00 each and a Marlin 1895 45/70 for $299.00 at the local Walmart today. I needed that 45/70 about as much as hole in the head but it was too good a price to pass up. About 3 weeks ago, I got a Remington 700 ADL in .223. I paid full price for it, but it's a shooter and I'm hoping these are too.
