I have been talking to Al Minneman at MTM about the need for a box that will hold 45/70 etc cartridges BASE DOWN or the same thing-BULLET UP. I fear that my Dacron shifts or cream of wheat mixes with the powder when I use a base UP box. I haven't found a box that will hold 45/70 cartridges base down.
The MTM 100 round 30/06 size case has a black insert. I suggest that another insert would hold maybe 60 or 70 45/70, 45/90, 40/65 and ????? cartridges base down.
If you also feel the need for this type box, why not contact Al at
allenm@mtmcase-gard.com

Thanks;

Good morning, Joe.

I sent an email to Allen this morning. Below is his reply.

As of right now we have only one box that fits the 45/90 in a bullet up position. It's the RF22-SM flip top 22 round rifle ammo box. It was designed to hold WSM rounds. If 45/70 and 45/90 continue there come back and the WSMs become more popular you will probably see a 50 round box in are future,
Thanks for the Email

I've got those boxes. Very nice. Will check tonight to see how well they work with the noses up. I usually keep my bullets down in case things get warm and bullet lube starts melting.

OK. Checked the rounds last night to see how they fit in the MTM box. No problems at all. I would give this product the go-ahead. One nice thing about these boxes is that they have a pin-style hinge on the back instead of the very thin plastic "parting line?" that will eventually break after being exercised, especially in cold weather. Hope this helps. By the way, I have 45/70 rounds in these boxes.
